Not going with Andrew and sneaking a look herself might be the better option. Melina took the invitation and said goodbye to Dante before leaving. She walked back to the Wentworth residence. Wallace was likely taking a nap, as the hall was quiet. Melina put away the invitation and headed to the kitchen, where the glutinous rice and malt had almost finished fermenting. Taking a clean cheesecloth to strain out the liquid, she started cooking the dough. She stirred it continuously with a spatula. After nearly an hour, the dough thickened, and she turned off the heat. Melina sprinkled some powdered sugar on the cutting board. Once the dough cooled a bit, she stretched it into long strips and cut them into small pieces. After several days of effort, she had made only two small boxes. She tasted one—it was quite good. Wallace still hadn't come down.
