Chapter 12
Arthur curved his mouth into a devilishly handsome smile. "I…"
In the face of a handsome man with ocean-blue eyes, Josephine suddenly yawned, which cut him off.
"Sorry, I didn't manage to get enough sleep last night so I'm going to rest now. Let's contact each other when we're free."
Josephine spoke coldly. After that, she pulled the small blanket and covered her face, falling asleep quickly.
Arthur was stunned, and he didn't even get to withdraw that smile on his face.
After a brief pause, he got up and went back to his own seat.
Mason stared at his back and couldn't help but compliment Josephine in his heart.
She was really good at avoiding seduction from men.
Josephine slept as long as the flight took.
She was still in a sleepy state when the plane landed.
Just when she was waiting for the driver with Mason, a hand landed on her shoulder.
When she looked back, her eyes landed on a pair of ocean-blue eyes, which belonged to Arthur.
He was standing behind her, with an invitation between his fingers.
"They arranged a private manor for me in Sunvale. I am holding a party this Saturday at 8:00 pm. I hope you can make it."
He was very confident usually, but this time, he was a little nervous.
He felt like this woman might reject his invitation.
"Sorry, I don't like crowded places."
Sure enough, Josephine rejected him without any hesitation.
Arthur's ego suffered a minor blow, yet the carefree smile on his lips remained as radiant as ever.
"You don't have to come, but this invitation is something you must have."
Leaving these confident words behind, he donned his sunglasses, dragged his suitcase, and strode away with long, purposeful steps.
Mason watched his retreating figure, unable to resist a sigh of admiration. "He's genuinely handsome!"
Josephine observed his departing silhouette and offered an honest assessment. "When a man thinks he's handsome, even if he's descended from the heavens, he'll come across as extra."
Extra?
Ah, in all the world, the only person bold enough to describe Arthur as extra was Josephine.
The person responsible for hosting Josephine was Luigi Bloom, a former collaborator and investor.
He was a fan of Josephine and also a friend of Mason's.
Upon learning that Josephine was coming to Crestwood, he immediately offered one of his villas for her stay and even assigned two servants from his household to assist, extending the utmost hospitality.
It was a countryside villa.
Outside the nostalgic and elegant wooden house stretched vast expanses of grassland, serene and tranquil.
The interior was simple yet warm, with vintage velvet sofas, teak furniture, and antique chandeliers creating a unique sense of timeless charm.
Josephine instantly fell in love with the place.
She personally called Luigi to thank him. "Thank you so much, Mr. Bloom."
Luigi was a carefree person, and he chuckled happily. "You're welcome. Leave me a spot when your new movie starts shooting."
"My movie didn't earn a lot."
"Your movie didn't make money, but the hidden advertisement in it boosted my earnings by 30%!"
That was true.
Her movies might not make a lot of money, but their conversion rates were very high, and the quality of the audience was great. They were still very popular with investors and advertisers.
"Alright, I'll make sure to contact you first when the time comes."
After hanging up the phone, she saw Mason come out holding a fruit salad.
He placed the fruit salad on the coffee table and casually turned on the TV.
"It's been three years, and I don't know if your tastes have changed, but I made it with the recipe you used to like. Come over and try it."
Josephine glanced at Mason, unable to stop herself from sighing.
Zayn's understanding of her probably didn't even come close to one-tenth of Mason's.
"Nadine's role is the second female lead, but her on-screen chemistry with the second male lead is explosive. Everyone says Nadine looks so affectionate even when looking at a dog. How did she practice that?"
Suddenly, the voice of the host calling for Nadine came from the TV.
Mason immediately turned up the volume. "Look, isn't this the rising star promoted by Forbes Group? She's been really hot recently, people say she has a good chance of becoming a big star."
The next moment, Nadine's voice filled the entire villa.
"Actually, I've never practiced for this. If I had to say, it might be related to my first love. I attended Crestwood's top high school and met my first love there. He confessed to me on the roof of Starluxe Tower in Crestwood, leaving me with so many sweet memories."
"Crestwood's top high school?" Mason was stunned. "Mr. Forbes also attended Crestwood's top high school, right? Maybe she and Mr. Forbes were classmates. No wonder Mr. Forbes supports her so much."
Josephine looked at Nadine, who was brimming in the screen, and replied, "Zayn is her first love."
"Oh, no wonder! That makes sense."
Mason nodded as if realization hit him. Then, he realized he might have said something wrong and quickly turned to look at Josephine.
"Ms. Dunn, w-what did you just say?"
Josephine took a mouthful of yogurt, and replied, "Is something wrong with your hearing? I said, Zayn was her first love, and he is her lover now."
Mason was speechless. He stared at Josephine with widened eyes.
This was too much information, and he couldn't digest it.
First love? Lover?
After a moment, his jaw dropped. "Ms. Dunn, do you mean Mr. Forbes is having an affair?"
"That's right."
With a hint of self-mockery, the words slowly slipped from Josephine's scarlet lips, her smile pale and faint.
"I didn't want to hide it from you anymore. I've already written the divorce agreement. It won't be long before Zayn signs it. Our marriage is over."
What? How could there be infidelity? How did it come to this point of divorce?
Mason finally understood why Josephine was willing to leave Zayn and agreed to make her comeback.
"Ms. Dunn, why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Hahaha, Mr. Forbes hasn't really supported me that much. There are many other artists in our company. But Mr. Forbes is indeed a very gentle person."
Suddenly, Nadine's laughter came through the TV. It was a clear, pleasant laugh, but at this moment, in this space, it felt so sharp.
Mason hurriedly grabbed the remote control and turned off the TV in a panic.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know."
Josephine smiled, lowering her head to continue eating her yogurt. She thought she was being calm and detached.
But to her surprise, at that moment, a single teardrop fell into the yogurt.
She froze for a second, then, as if nothing had happened, she ate her yogurt.
"You don't have to apologize. The one who cheated wasn't you. I just wanted to tell you, I will no longer be Mrs. Forbes. I'm just Josephine."
