Chapter 6
After going back home, Giselle thought of speeding up her packing and moving process. However, because her leg was still recovering, she couldn't move around freely. So, she called a moving company to help her instead.
The living room was filled to the brim with boxes, big and small. A few workers were bustling about as they packed the things into boxes and brought them out to their trucks outside. The doors were thrown wide open as the workers diligently moved in and out.
Anthony was shocked to see the mess when he got home that day and asked Giselle what was going on. Giselle recited the answer she'd prepared beforehand and said, "The house in Haven Hills has been fully renovated and is now ready for moving in.
"Since it's closer to your workplace, it's more convenient for us to move there."
Anthony nodded, recalling the house deed he'd signed a while back.
After changing into some indoor slippers, he went to sit on the couch. He went over the house layout in his head while chatting idly with Giselle.
"You like flowers, don't you? Why don't we turn the east side balcony of the house into a mini flower garden for you?"
Giselle was silent for a few seconds. Then, she finally answered, "There's no need for that. I don't like them anymore."
Anthony instinctively glanced at the vase of fresh lilies on the table. He had a feeling that Giselle wasn't speaking the truth.
When he wanted to dig a little deeper, he suddenly realized that the workers seemed to only be packing and moving his things out. He then changed the subject and asked, "Why are they only moving mine out? What about your things?"
"They've already been moved out."
Anthony thought she meant her things had been taken over to the new house when he heard her answer so quickly. So, he didn't question her any further.
He got up and went to get himself a glass of water. He also reminded the workers and said, "Remember to label the things properly. Don't put them in the wrong room at the other place."
Giselle looked at him in silence. Her eyes quivered ever so slightly as she swallowed the words she thought she wanted to say aloud.
They wouldn't send them to the wrong room anyway.
That was because there were only Anthony's things at the new house.
After everything was sorted out, Anthony helped Giselle down. As soon as they got out of the elevator, however, they bumped straight into Melanie and Castor Eastwood, her elder brother. Everyone was shocked for a moment.
Anthony never thought that such a situation would ever happen. Panic arose in his eyes as he hurriedly let go of Giselle's hand. Then, he took a few steps forward and shielded Giselle behind him.
"What are you guys doing here?"
Castor arched his eyebrow and said, "Melanie said that she wanted to visit you at your new home, and since I hadn't been there either, we managed to get the address from your parents. We were planning to surprise you."
Meanwhile, Melanie's gaze lingered on Giselle for a long while. If she wasn't mistaken, she had met Giselle at least twice before—once at the law firm, and once more outside the restaurant bar.
Her intuition told her that Giselle wasn't just anybody. Curious about Giselle's identity, Melanie decided to test the waters a little.
"Tony, who's this?"
Anthony remained silent for a bit, as if still racking his brains on how he should introduce the women to each other.
However, Giselle seemed calm as she extended her hand toward Melanie in a friendly manner.
"My name is Giselle Lockhart, and I'm Mr. Grayson's collegemate. I'm currently undergoing a divorce, so I thought I'd come and ask him for some help. I didn't think that he would be in the midst of moving out, though. I came at the wrong time."
Giselle's explanation snapped Anthony back to the present. He cast Giselle a guilty look first before proceeding with introducing them to each other.
Although everything made sense, Melanie still couldn't help feeling a little suspicious about it. However, since there were other people around, Melanie didn't think it was appropriate for her to question them any further.
Instead, she tried convincing Castor to help Anthony with his moving out.
Melanie went up to Giselle and started a conversation with her.
"Giselle, why are you getting a divorce?"
Giselle didn't think that Melanie would want to get close to her so quickly and easily. After a brief pause, she smiled back at her and said, "My husband likes another woman."
