Although the wound on his thigh was extremely painful, Benjamin stood up in determination when he heard the concern in Layla's voice. He waved her off and said, "I'm fine."

All he could think about was Layla's concern for him and Daisy's eager expression. As the cheers of his classmates filled his ears, he ran even harder. He felt pretty good, which gave him renewed energy and motivation. He forgot all about the tiredness and the pain.
All he wanted was to win the race.
In the last 50 yards, Benjamin gritted his teeth and sprinted forward to the finish line. Amid an explosion of cheers, he was the first contestant to cross it.
He waved wildly at Daisy who was still in the stands, and Daisy bounced up and down in her seat in excitement.
In her joy, Daisy blurted, "Benji!"
Layla stared at her little girl in disbelief when she heard her speak. "Daisy, what did you just say?
