Chapter 43
Noticing the unease on Layla's face, Mark leaned in to reassure her, saying, "Don't worry. Even if he's my cousin, I'll make sure he pays for it if he really did this."
They stood on the lawn talking when Milton sauntered over with a smug smile plastered on his face.
"Well, Ms. Jenkins. Long time no see."
Layla barely glanced at him and said in a frosty tone, "Mr. Hicks, it seems you have a selective memory. I haven't been a secretary in four years. Are you pretending, or have you genuinely developed amnesia?"
Milton let out a sharp whistle, nodding toward Seth behind him.
"Hey, Seth, your old secretary hasn't changed a bit. Still stunning, still sharp-tongued. But I have to admit, she's leveled up since leaving your company. Looks like Mark knows how to treat a woman better than you do."
Seth didn't rise to the bait, but his gaze shifted to Layla, his eyes unreadable.
The setting sun cast a warm glow over his chiseled features, making his expression even more striking.
