Taylor's footsteps halted. He glanced back with a disdainful smirk. "I'd still see to your funeral."
Bethany widened her eyes in disbelief, unable to fathom the drastic change in his attitude overnight. She couldn't accept this sudden severance.

Thomas looked apprehensive. "Mr. Jones, Mrs. Jones called you but couldn't get through, so she called me. I told her you were held up by Ms. Powel and that it wasn't you who ended the call. I'm not sure if she believed me."
"What did she say?"
"She just said, 'I see,' and hung up."
Heading towards the exit, Taylor pulled out his phone and dialed Natalie's number. The phone rang, but no one answered.
