"Mr. Mueller, what's bothering you? Mrs. Nicholls can't help with that. Shouldn't I call a doctor instead?" Kim asked, concerned.
"No, I just need Mae. Seeing her will make me feel better," Evan insisted, his brow furrowed, and his face etched with discomfort.
Kim noticed his distress and had no choice but to get Mavis from next door.
"Evan, how are you feeling? What's wrong?" Mavis asked as she hurried to his bedside.
Evan turned to look at her and stated softly, "Mae, I want to move back downstairs."
Confused, she asked, "Why? Are you uncomfortable here?"
"I can't sleep well here. Besides, I'm useless now. I can't even walk. The size of the room doesn't matter to me," Evan replied, a fleeting smirk of self-mockery crossing his lips.
"You shouldn't say that. You'll recover," Mavis scolded him.
"I'm just kidding, Mae. The truth is, I really can't sleep in this room. I've developed a new problem—I'm particular about beds. I sleep better in the regular ward downstairs," h
