Nathaniel carefully prepared a bottle for Callum, checking the water temperature before handing it to him.
Then, he placed the bottle in Callum's arms, letting the little one hold it himself.
"The room is covered with thick, soft mats. Callum won't get hurt from a fall. Grandma, don't worry too much about him. After all, boys are bound to trip and stumble as they grow."
Mildred disagreed, saying, "It's not the same. I raised Jason, and just look at how gentle and refined he turned out."
Unfortunately, Jason, the eldest of the siblings, passed away too soon.
"When you came to the Nicholls residence, I was ill and sent abroad for treatment. Otherwise, I would've raised you like I did Jason. I would've made sure you didn't suffer so much."
Nathaniel froze, his hand freezing over his coffee cup as memories of a less-than-pleasant childhood surfaced.
Mildred's face also reflected sorrow and regret.
