The silence was deafening.
Ava’s heart raced as she and the team slipped inside the warehouse, the heavy steel doors creaking shut behind them. The air was thick with the smell of dust and oil, the faint hum of machinery vibrating through the concrete floor. Rows upon rows of stacked crates stretched into the shadows, creating a labyrinth of dark, narrow aisles.
But something wasn’t right.
Ava had expected resistance—guards, alarms, some sign that Meridian knew they were coming. But instead, the facility was empty. No patrols, no cameras, no security presence. It was too easy, and Ava’s instincts screamed at her to be on high alert.
“Stay sharp,” Ava whispered into her comms, her voice steady but filled with tension. “This doesn’t feel right.”
Callum nodded from beside her, his eyes scanning the rows of crates as they moved deeper into the warehouse. “Too quiet,” he muttered, his voice barely audible. “Feels like they’re waiting for us.”
