"Thank you, Shirley," Marla said with a warm smile, handing her a basket of fresh herbs. "We wouldn't have managed without you." Shirley looked up from her work, her hands still busy with the tasks. She offered a tired but sincere smile. "It's my pleasure. I'm glad I can help." The pack had grown to see Shirley as Drakon's wife and an essential community member. Her healing touch had become a symbol of hope, and though this role was new to her, she accepted it with a steadfast heart. Shirley busied herself to prepare food in the communal space where they gathered for meals and activities. The rhythmic chopping of vegetables and the stirring of pots provided a steady rhythm to her days. She had cast aside her former luxuries, focusing instead on the needs of those around her.
