Taylor pursed his lips, looking a bit lost. "It's not that you're scary. I just thought you might feel a bit awkward."
"Don't worry. There won't be any more awkwardness from now on," Abigail said with a bittersweet smile.
Taylor glanced at her. "You're not thinking of ending our friendship, are you?"
"Not a chance!" Abigail shot back, pretending to tease. "I know you've wanted to shake me off for ages, but did you really think I'd let you go that easily?"
Taylor let out a relieved breath. "You scared me there. I thought—"
"Thought what?"
"Nothing." Taylor patted his chest, still trying to catch his breath.
Seeing his relief, Abigail felt a tightness in her heart. She hadn't realized that her feelings for him had put so much pressure on him.
Taking a deep breath, she worked to hold back her tears. She tried to regain her usual carefree attitude and asked, "So, are we still friends or not?"
"As long as you don't mind, I'm totally on board," Taylor replied cheerfully.
