What Benjamin had done to Carol all those years ago had left her with a deep hatred for him. Even after ten years, she still couldn't bear to face him.
Benjamin felt like a complete jerk. He had wronged Carol in ways he couldn't undo. If she wanted to yell at him or even hit him, he'd take it without complaint. But seeing her harm herself was unbearable. He would rather she swing the cleaver at him than hold a knife to her own neck.
Edward answered coldly, "My mother will be fine as long as you stay as far away from her as possible."
With that, Edward handed Benjamin a plate of brussels sprouts. Benjamin took it reflexively.
