Chapter 13 Wasn't a lie.
He turned his head to Arien again but his gaze became gentle.
Harry was still in the mood to make a mess.
He ran towards Devian but was stopped by one of his bodyguards before he could reach them.
Devian had two bodyguards with him and Harry had none. It was not convenient to attack him now. He could only curse him.
"I'll make you pay for what you did, Devian Lyle."
Devian didn't pay any attention to him which made Harry infuriated even more.
"I'll let you and your company fall and disappear in just seconds." Harry kept shouting at the top of his voice.
Devian eyes were focused on Arien. He pushed her slightly messy hair from her face with his slender fingers. Then reached out to touch her cheeks which were swollen because of the slaps.
"Does it hurt?" Devian's concerns were seen in his eyes.
"A little." Arien replied with a faint smile in her face.
"This girl! She still wants to hide her pain." This made Devian angry.
"Dean"
Dean stepped forward "Director"
"You know what you should do."
"Leave it to me, Director"
Devian nodded and started walking but Arien took a step and felt a sharp pain in her right foot. It was bleeding. She clenched her fist tightly to cover the pain in her eyes.
Devian picked her up and walked towards the car.
Dean gestured his bodyguards and
Slap!
Sound of slap was heard from behind.
Devian didn't care but Arien glanced back and saw Harry being slapped.
Then she turned her head to look at Devian. He had no expression rather his expression was calm which eased Arien's heart and mind.
She laid quietly in his arms and rested her head in his chest hearing his steady heartbeat.
She wondered how this man always appears from the blue at the time she needs him the most.
Devian had already reached the car but didn't put her in, instead he held her stood straight and let her in that position.
Dean came over.
"Is this the same cold Director he had known from past decade." He thought.
"Go back and give the servants a day off. Ask them to leave the house." Devian ordered.
"What has happened to him. Suddenly a day off!" Dean couldn't say this loud.
"Yes" he nodded and left with the other two bodyguards.
Now only the two of them were left.
Suddenly it stated drizzling. The weather during the day was bright and clear. Why did it suddenly rained out if nowhere.
"What's the matter?" Arien asked
"Hmm..?" Devian frowned
Seeing his expression Arien was confused. "What has happened to him" she thought.
"Nothing? Then put me down"
"Your foot is bleeding"
"I won't mess around. I just want to stand in the rain for a while, heard that it eases ones stress and anxiety."
"No!" His reply was firm.
"Please! I promise that I won't walk, I would just stand here." Arien wanted to stay there for a while. She can't help but requested him.
Seeing her cute little face Devian wanted to kiss her hard. How could he not agree?
"You just want to stay then stay here."
Finally he agreed "Then put me down"
"Who said I'm putting you down?" Devian chuckled.
"But you just agreed, didn't you?" Arien was confused.
Seeing her confused expression which rather looked adorable, Devian's mood was lifted.
"I'll hold you till you're done."
"But....." Devian said those words like an order which made Arien unable to refuse.
The weather was refreshing. Devian stood there with Arien in his arms. He looked enchanting. His face was like a perfect sculpture carved with utmost perfection.
"Why are you staring at me?" Arien came back to her senses and retracted her gaze back from his face.
Her big eyelashes shuddered. Her face blushed. She looked like a delicate little flower.
"Uhh..! You... Can put me down. I can stand." Arien felt embarrassed after being caught.
"What if I don't agree" his tone was still the same.
"Can't you have a better expression. It's such a romantic weather. Why do you always have to keep a poker face?" Arien spoke discontentedly.
"Is that so?" He made her sit on passenger seat and kept the car door open. "For gaining something in life, one should know to control their emotion." He continued, looking at the sky.
He leaned on the car and the rain fell on him creating a beautiful scene like a picture. He really looked like a god.
Arien stared at him and thought "This man was so different in the morning. And now
... Maybe he has many other faces."
Arien followed his gaze and looked up in the sky. "I know. I don't remember who I am. It's something not easy for anyone to accept and keep calm as if nothing his happened."
Devian "....."
For a while both were silent.
They didn't know what to say. They just stared at the dark sky and let the rain clear the emptiness in their hearts away.
"What was that?" Arien asked suddenly, still looking at the sky
"What?" Devian actually knew what she meant but how would he tell her. He just looked at her face.
"You said I'm your wife, to protect me." Arien glanced at him and continued "Are you not scared that your reputation would be ruined to say that lie?"
Devian looked at her and then looked away.
He didn't lie. It was true. She was indeed his wife now. But he doesn't know how to explain it to her. First time in his life he wasn't having any idea what he was doing.
He closed the door, sat in the driver seat and started the car.
...
