"Jan? Jan?" Mandy's voice broke through Teresa's thoughts.
Teresa snapped back to reality and noticed Mandy anxiously looking at her. "What's wrong?"
"What were you thinking? I called your name several times, but you didn't respond," Mandy said in concern. "Are you nervous?"
Teresa chuckled. "Not really. I'm fine."
"Are you thirsty? I can go buy a bottle of water." Mandy offered.
"Sure."
The vending machine was by the elevator, so Mandy ran off.
Teresa returned her gaze to the front but suddenly felt a tug at the hem of her shirt.
She turned her head, but the seat beside her was empty.
Then, the tug came again.
This time, Teresa looked down to see a small child no taller than her knees.
The child was dressed coolly, with short hair that had been carefully tied. She wore a serious expression as her pale little hand clutched Teresa's shirt tightly. She timidly said, "Daddy, daddy."
