However, Tiffany's hand grasped nothing but a cold piece of clothing. She panicked and bolted upright from the bed, only to realize that Cynthia, who had been nestled in her arms, was gone.
"Boom!" Another crack of thunder rolled outside the window, a rare sound in the dead of winter. The room was shrouded in darkness, and when lightning briefly illuminated the night, Tiffany saw a figure seated by the couch.
She stumbled out of bed and rushed over. "Jenson, where's Cynthia?"
Jenson stood up and walked toward her with his arms outstretched. Tiffany shoved him away. "Give me back my child!"
"Tiffany!" Jenson pulled her into his arms again, this time holding her so tightly she could hardly move. No matter how much she struggled, he refused to let go.
"Tiffany, come with me. Let's leave together, alright? Just the two of us. We can start over, far away from all of this."
She caught the scent of alcohol on his breath and recoiled. "Are you insane?"
"Yes, I am!" Jenson's grip on her
