Before Teresa could utter another word, Tiffany bolted out of the hospital room.
It wasn't that Tiffany didn't want to ask; she was just too afraid.
She knew her sister would tell her everything if she asked, but she was afraid of the answers.
Lost in thought, Tiffany poured hot water into a kettle. Not paying attention, she scalded the back of her hand. The hot water bottle slipped from her grasp and clattered to the floor, narrowly missing her feet.

"How did you manage to burn your hand like this?" Teresa's voice wavered as tears welled up more intensely with each word.
