Chapter 240
The next day, Zelda arrived at the institute for the welcoming event. She hadn't planned to attend initially, but after hearing that Edgar, the dean of the institute, would be present, she decided to go. She wanted to see if Edgar might recognize her mother, Victoria Rutherford.
The event wasn't particularly lively. Every year, only a handful of recruits joined the institute, but to add some cheer to the otherwise somber atmosphere, the tradition of a welcoming event was upheld.
The event was held in the front courtyard, where tables had been set up. Most of the institute's members came out to join the gathering.
When Zelda arrived, she noticed that Esme was already there, dressed in an elegant silver-colored gown. Surrounded by a group of admiring men, she looked every bit the princess as she basked in their attention.
The moment Zelda stepped into view, Esme's gaze darted toward her. Dislike flared in her eyes. It was intense and unmistakable. She couldn't stand Zelda.
