21. Shadows of Escape
A week later, Lia was finally able to move around. Maria had been taking care of her in the hospital.
"Oh, thank goodness you're better. When I first heard you'd been hit by a car, my heart nearly stopped," Maria sighed in relief as she watched Lia finish her meal.
Lia couldn't help but laugh, albeit with a hint of frustration. "You're really laying it on thick."
"Why does life have to be so hard for you?" Maria asked, her heart aching as she gently touched Lia's cheek. "At least you're still here with us. You didn't lose your life."
Lia bit her lip, hesitating before finally calling out, "Maria."
"What's up?" Maria turned to face her.
"I need a favor." Lia gripped Maria's wrist.
Maria blinked, taken aback. "What is it?"
"I want to see my father," Lia said, her voice filled with desperation.
She had overheard Damon talking about her father being held somewhere while she was in the hospital. She guessed Damon thought she was still unconscious and did not guard
