Chapter Six: Why is He Here Again?

“If Alexander really has a thing for you, isn’t that kind of great? Don’t worry about accepting the gift. To him, that money is just a drop in the bucket.” Isabella sighed, “You always have a way of lightening the mood. I’m just so on edge. It’s like I don’t want to step out; it feels as if everyone’s eyes are fixed on me.” “it was a tough decision, but accepting that necklace was probably the only way to save face for him in front of everyone.” Sofia paused, pondering. “When you didn’t return home last night, I wondered if something had happened between you two.” ”Oh, Sofia, you’re so dirty minded your imagination runs wild.” Isabella chuckled. “You think up crazier scenarios than I do.” ”I didn’t expect Alexander to be Sebastian’s uncle. Small world, huh?” The mention of Sebastian made Isabella feel uncomfortable. “Let’s not discuss him right now. He isn’t worth our time. I’m currently at work. We’ll talk about it later at home.” ”Sure thing. No eating out tonight. I’ll have the maid whip up your favorite dish.” ”Sounds perfect.” Ending the call left Isabella feeling overwhelmed. It was only her second day at the office, and the whole buzz about the necklace had reached everyone. The odd stares she received upon entering said it, some people gave her disgusting looks. Despite Sofia’s advice, Isabella was resolute about returning the necklace to Alexander. It was far too expensive, and given their relationship, she didn’t feel right keeping it, it isn’t right.. After completing her work, she carried the boxed necklace to Alexander’s office, knocking on the door with a mix of apprehension and determination. ”Come in.” Isabella didn’t beat around the bush. “Boss, I can’t accept this necklace. I simply can’t accept it. It’s way too extravagant. Last night’s incident is affecting my life, I can’t keep up with the stares and insults so need to return this to you.” Hearing her, Alexander realized his error. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking straight. I had a bit too much to drink and made a rash decision. I’ll issue a statement to clear up the misunderstanding, so sorry for the harm done.” “Thank you.” Alexander had been drawn to Isabella from their first meeting, feeling like she brought a sense of brightness and warmth into his life. His long-standing single status made him quite sought after, but none had interested him until now. Isabella was ready to leave Alexander’s office when Sebastian came in unannounced. “Didn’t you promise to send it to me, Alexander? Why do I have to come here just for a draft?” As she turned to exit, Isabella accidentally bumped into Sebastian. His demeanor changed upon seeing her, and he couldn’t resist making a snide comment. “Quite the center of attention last night, weren’t you?, nice seeing you again, miss spotlight?” Alexander promptly defended her. “Watch your language, Sebastian, educated people don’t talk like that.” Sebastian, seemingly unaware of his rudeness, only stopped because Alexander seemed irked. Then, addressing Isabella, Alexander asked, “Can you bring me the design sketches you were working on yesterday? I’d like to take a look at them” Sebastian’s sudden appearance had already put Isabella, she knew he was up to no good. She retrieved the ring design, a piece she knew Sebastian would give to someone specific. She had prepared herself for encountering Sebastian at work, just not so soon, she might have just underestimated him. Despite personal feelings, Isabella presented her design ideas with utmost professionalism and dedication. Alexander was genuinely impressed by her design, even considering it for a limited edition. Finding such a talented designer was rare, and he was eager to support her growth and development. Sebastian, after Alexander’s compliments, gave a scornful smirk. “Doesn’t look that impressive. It’s too tacky to me. I’ve heard about this lady’s Heart of Love design. Seems like she’s been overrated by the media, I don’t like it, the design is too poor.” Isabella remained composed. “If there’s any aspect you’re unsatisfied with, sir, please let me know. I can adjust the design to meet your expectations and desires.” Sebastian scrutinized Isabella’s design, finding faults. “The diamond here seems awkward, and this element is redundant, right?” “Understood, I’ll make the necessary adjustments as quickly as possible.” Isabella wanted to leave the situation. She gathered her drawings and exited the office as fast as she could. Sebastian saw this as an opportunity to follow her. “Alexander, I’m going to see this through. If there’s anything else that needs addressing, I can talk it over with her.” “Be mindful of your behavior. If you want to cause trouble, do it elsewhere, not in my office, I hope you heed to my warning .” “I understand, I won’t cause any problem at your office.” Sebastian then followed Isabella. Catching up, he asked, “Why in such a hurry? Don’t want to be around me?, I’m usually praised for being a good company” Isabella redirected his remark. “I’ve accepted your project and am dedicated to delivering quality work. I hope today we can interact strictly as a client.” Expecting Sebastian might follow her to her office, she tactfully headed toward the reception area, where other employees were present, hoping his behavior would be more appropriate in a public setting. Sebastian observed the bustling employees around them. “Are you sure we should discuss this here, can’t we go somewhere private?” ”Isn’t this where clients are usually welcomed? Doesn’t your company follow the same protocol?” ”Just consider this. If anything were to happen here, who would it affect more?” Isabella was taken aback by his implication. “Are you threatening me Mr. Thompson?” Sebastian subtly gestured toward her office. “Certain discussions are best held in private, in your office, right, so matters are too confidential to be discussed in front of others?” Isabella, feeling frustrated but composed, agreed, “If that’s your preference, sir, then we can continue this conversation in my office.” Sebastian followed Isabella into her office, a smug grin evident on his face. He always had that attitude, but it wasn’t as noticeable when they still had feelings for each other. Now that they were strangers, his indifference was crystal clear. Closing the office door, he broke the silence. “You know what? I actually like the ring you designed. I just wanted to make you look bad in front of Alexander. I wanted to tarnish your image in front of him” Charlotte remained composed and avoided confrontation. “Alexander didn’t buy into your words. You’re the one who ended up looking foolish and idiotic.” Frank smirked mockingly. “You’ve become so confrontational. I miss the gentler version of you from before, but this fiery version of you is still alright” Charlotte responded firmly, “Your feelings about me don’t matter. I don’t care what you think about me. There’s no need for mockery. People change. Marrying Lorraine must have been quite beneficial for you, huh? That’s probably how you grew the business so quickly. Now I see why you were so eager about IVF and giving the babies away. It was all part of your plan. I’m surprised you planned something so diabolical”
