Chapter 19

It felt like someone was squeezing my heart when I saw how Sharon firmly shielded Javin behind her. I was out of breath. We had been married for three years, yet she had never defended me like this. But now, Javin, who looked exactly like Wesley, had quickly taken a significant place in her heart. At that moment, May suddenly stepped in front of me and coldly demanded, "Don't take another step. Is this how you treat your customers? Is this your restaurant's service attitude?" Staring at the woman in front of me, I felt a wave of warmth washing over my chest. As if hearing the biggest joke, the manager burst into laughter. "Sorry, but we don't serve murderers in our restaurant!" "Every guest should be treated equally," May responded firmly. "Call your boss over! I'd like to know who gave you the authority to reject customers!" The manager showed no fear, answering without hesitation, "Fine, I'll make sure you leave this place willingly." About ten minutes later, a middle-aged man with a bulky figure, Matthias, hurried over. To my astonishment, as soon as he saw May, he bowed his head respectfully. "Ms. Cabello, why didn't you inform me you were coming? I would have arranged a good table for you!" I wasn't the only one shocked. The manager was equally dumbfounded as he blurted out, "Sir, the man behind her is a murderer! Having him here will only cause fear among the other guests!" "Shut up!" Matthias, enraged, glared at the manager. "This restaurant belongs to Ms. Cabello! It's not your place to question who she brings here. You're fired!" After that, he smiled obsequiously at May. "Ms. Cabello, my employee acted out of line and unintentionally offended you and your friend. I apologize on his behalf." Since the manager didn't start this whole incident, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. I replied calmly, "It's fine. Thank you for coming over." He quickly shook his head. "It's no trouble at all. It's my duty. If there's nothing else, I'll get back to work. Feel free to call me if you need anything." Javin's discontent was apparent as he watched Matthias leave. "Kaelan, you're just using May's authority to get your way!" he spat. "Javin, don't get worked up over a murderer." Sharon looked at me with eyes filled with mockery and indifference. "After all, this restaurant belongs to Ms. Cabello. She can host whatever kind of guests she likes." As she spoke, her sarcasm grew more evident, her cold gaze seemed to pierce through me. "Kaelan, you useless man! All you're good for is what happens in bed. What else can you do besides relying on women?" I looked at her calmly, my tone distant as I remarked, "Dirty-minded people see everything as dirty. Who I rely on has nothing to do with you. Please know your place." Left speechless at my words, Sharon pulled Javin with her and turned to leave. "Javin, let's go!" As their figures gradually disappeared, I let out a sigh of relief and turned to May with an apologetic expression. "Sorry for dragging you into our mess. That's just her nature, so don't take it too personally." May's face broke into a warm smile. "It's not your fault. You don't need to take all the blame. As for you, however, don't let them affect your mood." I nodded heavily and quickly put the incident behind me. After I went home, I felt an uneasy sense that something was off about Javin's identity. His behavior, mannerisms, and speech were all too similar to Wesley's. My suspicions grew when I thought about the mole on the back of his neck. I immediately pulled out my computer and used my skills to investigate.
