Chapter 3 Leave Behind
The gathering ended on a sour note, but it wasn't because of me.
Two female mutual friends of ours slammed their hands on the table in anger.
One of them pointed at Winona and screeched, "You two are acting like a couple under the pretense of friendship. Haven't you got any shame?"
Camden's face had yet to turn pale, and Winona hadn't even started to defend herself yet before the other woman stood up as well.
She said loudly, "Don't invite me to gatherings like this again. And don't give me that BFF nonsense! You may not have done anything material that constitutes cheating, but this is just as bad!"
I simply smiled and remained silent.
I had said the exact same words many times before. Each time, before Winona could even argue, Camden would jump in to defend her. And every time, I would end up feeling inexplicably hurt.
It wasn't that I wasn't in pain now. It was just that, after so many blows to the heart, it had become scarred and utterly numb.
