Chapter 31
Skye squatted and began to help me pick up the scattered things. It was the most humiliating moment, and she happened to see it.
My face flushed with embarrassment, and I wished I could find a hole to hide in. I could endure Lilith's mockery, but the thought of Skye witnessing my humiliation was unbearable.
The wind whipped at the shattered glass. I pulled Skye's hand away. "Don't touch that. You could get hurt."
Skye gently patted the back of my hand and didn't care about the curious gazes around us.
"It's okay. With a little teamwork, it won't be tiring." Her lighthearted comment relieved much of my burden.
After quickly gathering all the items, Skye smiled at me and said, "There's a new steakhouse nearby. Want to try it?"
I nodded.
On the way, Skye didn't mention what had happened earlier. Instead, she kept talking about interesting things to divert my attention. I looked at her as if grasping the light that had broken through the darkness of my life.
