Chapter 43
As I ascended the stairs, I saw Mrs. Lane looking down absentmindedly.
She only noticed me when I got close. She asked, "You know Juana?"
I was surprised as I hadn't expected that Mrs. Lane would know Juana.
However, Buetiva's high society was small. It wasn't unusual for Mrs. Lane to know Juana.
She looked at Juana and then back at me. Then, she told me, "You might not know this, but Juana is my niece."
I was dumbfounded. However, I nodded and replied, "I couldn't tell.
"I've met Ms. Juana once or twice in the past because of Wynnie. I wasn't expecting to run into her today."
Whether or not Mrs. Lane believed me, I had to say what needed to be said.
"I see. Let's not talk about her. She's almost the same age as Ms. Jakeman, yet she's still a cause for concern, unlike Ms. Jakeman."
Turns out that Juana was a rebel. Even her aunt thought so.
Mrs. Lane and I had an enjoyable conversation. She was quite satisfied with the arrangements that had been made for the banquet.
