"I know that Wynnie only went to that hospital because she had to. I trust that."
My lie probably successfully fooled Marie. Apart from reminding me to be careful, she didn't say anything else.
After hanging up, I looked at the sunset outside and felt my stomach starting to burn in pain. It quickly became unbearable.
I stumbled over to the table and forced down two painkillers. However, they stuck in my throat and refused to go down.
That made me start to retch uncontrollably.
After struggling over the toilet for a while, I looked at myself in the mirror. I was pale as a sheet and my cheekbones were sticking out sharply. I had already lost my edge from back then.
I looked as if I had aged more than a decade. No wonder Mdm. Foster was so worried.
I asked Barbara to pour me a cup of warm water.
The warm water helped the pills go down much more easily.
I lay down and did my best to curl up into a ball, trying to minimize the pain I was feeling that way.
