Chapter 17 We’ll Never Meet Again
Xu Yi’s expression changed. She had never expected Ye Shaotang to talk to her politely.
In her memories, Ye Shaotang had never been that concern for Xu Yi like that.
Perhaps Ye Shaotang also noticed that he was not being his usual self. He forcefully explained, “Don’t misunderstand. I’m just worried about your condition tomorrow. You’re gonna stand beside me and affect my image. I don’t want those nosy tabloids saying that I can’t take care of my woman.”
Xu Yi felt that this serious-looking Ye Shaotang looked really cute. She felt like teasing him. He looked like he would be a victim of bullying.
When she had this thought, Xu Yi felt that this frigid bastard, Ye Shaotang was different from how she imagined him to be. He was still humanized in some way.
This was especially when she went upstairs and noticed him in the study and not in the bedroom. She felt that Ye Shaotang was trying to offer his space to her.
Perhaps the person she was staying with did not create trouble for her, Xu Yi was in a good mood. Before going to bed, she even went over to the study to meet Ye Shaotang and repeated the same pretext to him in hopes that he would not bring shame to her as the man who was going to stand beside her.
But unfortunately, the two of them had wanted so bad to sleep early so they would look their best in front of a crowd tomorrow. In the end, both of them got insomnia that night.
When they woke up the next day, both of them had dark circles around their eyes.
Xu Yi scoffed at Ye Shaotang unhappily, “What did I say last night? Didn’t I tell you to sleep early? What is wrong with you? Do you think I can bring you outside when you look like this?”
Ye Shaotang looked at Xu Yi in disdain. “I don’t know where you get the courage to say that to me. Come talk to me after you’ve looked at yourself in the mirror.”
“What?”
Xu Yi walked to the bathroom in disbelief. She screamed out loud when she saw her puffy eyes with dark circles so dark they looked like they were about to fall off her face.
She turned around and saw Ye Shaotang standing there with his arms across his chest. It was like he was watching a drama unfolding in front of him. He laughed coldly, “How does it feel to call the kettle black?”
Xu Yi scoffed unhappily and said, “Ye Shaotang, would you feel uneasy if you don’t argue with me for one day? Do I need to find a tech company to create an AI for you so that you can argue with it every day?”
Ye Shaotang grinned and shrugged. “What’s the fun of AI? It’s only fun arguing with a human with warmth and expressions. What’s wrong, Xu Yi? Are you tired of this? Do you want to back out?”
Xu Yi glanced at Ye Shaotang in disdain. Her eyes discriminatory while she pouted and said, “Tsk tsk tsk, who’s tired of this? Ye Shaotang, tell me one more time, who’s tired of this?”
Ye Shaotang laughed loudly and headed toward the bathroom downstairs. Before that, he did not forget to remind Xu Yi to make herself look pretty so that she won’t lose the face of Madam Ye.
Xu Yi went off behind Ye Shaotang’s back. She felt this Ye Shaotang was different from the Ye Shaotang she knew.
After exiting the room, Ye Shaotang pressed a hand against his chest. He turned around to look at Xu Yi solemnly. Why was he so worried that Xu Yi would leave?
Could it be that her tactic was working?
No way. He was not someone who could be easily influenced. But this was just a simple tactic, how could it make him…Hmm, irrepressible?
He must have been working too hard recently, he was having delusions that he was not supposed to have.
Today they were attending a funeral. It was not suitable for her to put on heavy makeup.
If the real Xu Yi were to attend the funeral, she would have cried uncontrollably. But too bad, this Xu Yi was An Xin and An Xin was going to watch her own funeral.
Just thinking about it, this whole thing was so bizarre. It was very difficult for her to cry out.
Xu Yi decided to head out after concealing her dark circles and putting on a pair of sunglasses.
Going downstairs, she saw Ye Shaotang who was also wearing sunglasses. She could not help but teased him, “I thought you’re able to handle big things, but who knows Young Master Ye knows how to act as well.”
Ye Shaotang looked at the time and laughed in realization. “Ah, how could I forget this important matter? I have a very important meeting today. I can’t attend An Xin’s funeral. You’ll have to go alone.”
“No!”
Xu Yi took a step forward and grabbed Ye Shaotang’s arm. She begged in a low voice, “Young Master Ye, I was wrong. You’re the bigger person, please forgive me. I shouldn’t have mocked you just now. No, I’ll never mock you again. Please forgive me, Young Master Ye. You know An Xin, she would have wanted you to send her off.”
Ye Shaotang’s voice became gloomy and hoarse, “Really?”
Xu Yi nodded immediately. “Really. Of course, it’s real. I am An Xin’s best friend. I know what she’s thinking.”
Ye Shaotang’s expression was complicated when he said, “I thought An Xin would have hated me since I treated you so badly.”
Xu Yi was nodding furiously inside. She wanted to answer, “You’re not just treating me badly. You’re an insane person.”
But in order to coax Ye Shaotang to go with her, Xu Yi quickly said, “She might not like you, but she did not hate you. It’s her funeral today, I don’t know what will happen if you don’t send her off. It’s…the last chance after all.”
Initially, Xu Yi was coaxing Ye Shaotang seriously, but for some unknown reason, a wave of sadness flooded her heart and her tears started falling uncontrollably.
Ye Shaotang seemed to be affected by her sorrow. He said in a low voice, “Yes, after today, it will be ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Be it us or An Xin, we will never see each other again.”
Xu Yi followed Ye Shaotang and rolled her eyes as she muttered internally, “I wonder how you would feel if I were to let you know that the person beside you right now is the An Xin who disliked you?”
Thinking about it, Xu Yi felt sad for Ye Shaotang for losing someone he loved and it was unfortunate that he had no idea at all.
The two of them felt horrible on the way to the funeral parlor.
Normally, Ye Shaotang’s driver would play some relaxing music to help him relax, but this time, he did not dare to do anything but just drive.
