Chapter 47 : Prom Night
Ash's POV
"I can't believe my little man is going to prom and with the preacher's daughter no less!"
I don't think I've ever seen Mom so happy. She tightened my bowtie, a tacky navy affair that clashed horribly with the powdery lavender suit she had tackled me into. I looked like a rejected off-color version of the Little Prince. There was no talking her out of allowing me to switch suits to the burnt orange jacket and cream pants I'd found. She said I looked like some type of Lothario and I couldn't figure out, for the life of me, why that was a bad thing.
She lifted the roses and baby's breath boutonniere to my lapel, pinning it with shaking hands. She was getting so thin these days.
"I'm so glad I got to see you—I mean—"
"I know what you mean, Mom." I kissed her cheek. "I'm glad too."
"You look so handsome, Ash." She feathered her hands down my front and shoulders, getting rid of any stray hairs or lint. "You look just like your father! All dapper!"
