Chapter 15 : Re-Do
Ash's POV
"Are you paying attention, O'Rourke?"
It felt like the world's worst case of deja-vu. This time O'Rourke had the decency to at least be awake this time around.
Wait, dammit, I was supposed to be apologizing to the jerk. Now that I had a good idea of what he was going through, I felt bad for the greaser. Even worse when I heard some of the Patriots talking about how David was "correcting" O'Rourke's behavior. That would explain why he had been so late, and had walked in with noticeable jelly legs. David Hurt was not one to pull back punches on anyone, and I winced in empathy.
"Sorry, Ash." Ash? He'd never said my name before, just Wells or worse. Worrying behavior—maybe David had knocked something loose. "What were we on."
"Still on Whitman, but a new one." I played with the decoder ring on my thumb, twisting the bit of plastic around, settling on a tone that was neither too knowing nor caring. "You know…we could just reschedule if you aren't feeling up to—"
