Chapter 6

Upon seeing the boy coming after her, Sarah immediately turned and ran! In just a few seconds, she had left the beggar boy far behind. Reaching the first floor, Sarah listened for the footsteps, realizing that the beggar boy was still on the sixth floor. Slightly panting, she shouted upwards, "Goodbye! There’s really no need for you to thank me. Just live your life well!" Upon hearing these words, the beggar boy on the sixth floor was fuming with anger. He was utterly bewildered. How could a woman who looked so thin and weak move so fast downstairs? Around five o'clock, Sarah arrived at the bar. "Great, you finally showed up!" Manager Mike now looked at Sarah as if she was godsent. Patting her chest in promise, Sarah said, "Don't worry, I'll sing well tonight and won’t let you down!" With her reassurance, Manager Mike instantly beamed with joy. Just as the bar was about to open, there was already a crowd of customers waiting outside. After the bouncer let them in, everyone was asking whether Sarah had arrived. Manager Mike had seats for all of them, saying that Sarah would appear after other bands performed. Only then were the customers satisfied. The resident singer at the bar was not just Sarah, there were other bands as well. The time scheduled for Sarah to perform on stage was at seven o'clock, so she took a rest backstage for a while. Around 6:50, the audience below the stage could no longer wait and began to call out for her to perform. "Scarf-lady! We are all waiting for you!" "I came especially for you today!" "Get off the stage. We want to listen to Scarf-lady's song, you let her come up!" One shout after another, accompanied by the wave of sound, almost drowned out the voice of the lead singer on stage at the moment. Feeling neglected, the chief singer's face turned gloomy. Just what was it these people saw? Before, Brian was both talented and popular; she being neglected was acceptable, but how did things become so cray when it became the turn of this maniac to be the lead singer? She turned off her microphone, angrily heading down to the stage. Seeing Sarah lying comfortably on the backstage daybed, the lead singer walked over angrily! "Heh, what a taste Manager Mike has now, even a thing like you can be recruited!" "I tell you, don't be too arrogant. Your current treatment is all because Brian is not here. If he was here, you wouldn't even be able to stand outside the bar. The voice was shrill and grating. Sarah cleaned her ears before looking at her. The lead singer was wearing a strapped sequined dress, and her heavy smokey makeup looked intimidating. Yet Sarah merely hooked the corner of her lips in a mysterious manner. "But you don't even have the talent to show off." The lead singer's pupils contracted, on what grounds did this madwoman dare to insult her like this? She raised her hand, just about to lunge at Sarah when she saw Sarah abruptly rise from the sofa, conveniently dodging her sharp fingernails. Sarah Ignored her completely and she walked towards the stage. It was seven o'clock. In the chorus of cheers across the venue, Sarah ascended the stage, sitting at the very center. As soon as she got on the stage, the shouts became even more fierce. "Scarf lady, I've been waiting for you!" The more they anticipated Sarah's voice, the more embarrassed the backstage singer, Vivi felt. She plunged her nails deep into her palm, her face twisted with jealousy. Meanwhile, Sarah on the stage, scanned the musical instruments available, finally picking up the guitar and then began to sing "Hoping for my madness, hoping that I won't live alone..." From the microphone came a slightly hoarse light woman's voice, captivating everyone's ears instantly, all eyes were trained on Sarah on the stage, like beholding an angel who had presented herself. When Sarah was singing, a tall and slender figure walked into the bar from the front door. In the current moment, Sarah exuded a mesmerizing aura, a radiant beacon of light in the dimly lit bar. As a solitary beam of light caressed her features, she seemed to effortlessly command the attention of every patron present, becoming the focal point of the entire bar. Her presence was like a shimmering jewel amidst a sea of shadows, captivating all who beheld her with an undeniable allure that seemed to illuminate the very essence of the bar. Making men notice her at first sight. However... The man took a few more glances at the girl on stage. What was this inexplicable sense of familiarity? "So, it's finally Little Peach's performance time!" Mr. Jonathan, seeing Sarah on the stage, was both surprised and elated. He promptly turned to Wilfred and offered solicitously, "Mr. Smith, how about we find a spot to listen to her singing? This young girl sings quite well!" "Little Peach?" Upon hearing this name, Wilfred felt a twitch between his eyebrows. He turned to Mr. Jonathan for confirmation and asked, "Is she the new singer by Manager Mike?" "Yes," Mr. Jonathan answered, "She has a great voice, listen to her singing. It's filled with emotion. It brought me to tears yesterday. If I had to compare her to Brian, I would say there's not much of a difference..." As he was speaking, he saw Wilfred's gaze seemingly glued to Little Peach on stage. Having a knack for reading faces, he quickly suggested, "Mr. Smith, how about we go upstairs and take a seat first? I'll get Little Peach to come over later to meet you. Having a few words with you would be a fortunate event for her..." Upon hearing this, a mysterious smile played at the corners of Wilfred's mouth. He did not explicitly agree, but he didn't disagree either. Instead, he just made his way towards the 'A' suite upstairs. Mr. Jonathan, believing that he had accurately guessed Wilfred's thoughts, couldn't help but feel elated and quickly followed. "According to the media reports, Mr. Smith and Miss Sherling from the Anderson family just got engaged a few days ago. This is such a wonderful thing! Congratulations to Mr. Smith for winning the beauty!" It was unclear which words exactly caused the emotion in Wilfred's eyes to become obscure and difficult to discern. The assistant behind Mr. Jonathan murmured, “Mr Jonathan, the one engaged to Mr. Smith is the second miss of the Anderson family.” wilfred's eyes immediately stilled and he uttered solemnly, "It's the first Miss, there's only one daughter in the Anderson family, Sherling." Mr. Jonathan's flattery almost went awry, causing his heart to leap fiercely. He exhaled and then turned he gazed down to the stage below from the window again. At this moment, Sarah had just finished singing a song. Struck by an idea, he told his assistant, “Go, bring her up here!” "Alright." Just as the audience below the stage were all cheering for Sarah, the assistant rushed up to the stage and said something quietly to her. After listening to the assistant, Sarah looked up towards the most luxurious private room. Even though her sunglasses were of ordinary quality, it couldn't stop Sarah from having sharp eyes. Without needing the assistant to say more, she knew who the "honored guest" he was talking about was. It was Wilfred, that jerk? Why was he looking for her? Sarah was a bit curious. Could it be that he had recognized her? She put down her guitar, her crimson lips slightly turning upwards, as she followed her assistant upstairs. "Ahh, why are you leaving, Scarf lady, come back please!" "Don't go, we've been waiting for you for a long time, how can you just leave!" Manager Mike immediately rushed up, appeasing with a smile: "Everyone, please wait a minute, Scarf lady has something urgent now, she'll be back soon. Let's have Vivi sing a few more songs for everyone, Vivi, come on up!" Once the manager spoke, Vivi had no choice but to climb onto the stage again, full of resentment. She was green with envy right now! Not only did Sarah leave her to be the stand-in, but the key point was that Sarah went to a first-class room! From the window, it was clear that it was Wilfred Smith! As soon as the door of the room opened, Manager Mike led Sarah to Wilfred's front. Seeing Sarah enter, Mr. Jonathan was fawning, "Mr. Smith, this is the little peach just singing on stage, she sings well, if Mr. Smith likes her, should we let her propose a toast to you?" Wilfred leaned back lazily in his chair, legs crossed, his brown eyes rolled up and down over Sarah. The woman in front of him was wearing a pair of sunglasses that was big enough to cover half of her face, a mask casually hanging by her ear, and short hair just past her shoulders. Despite her thorough concealment, Wilfred still felt an uncontrollable sense of familiarity. Especially the lower half of her face… His eyes narrowed, and he suddenly coldly said: "Take the sunglasses off." The icy and commanding tone allowed no room for refusal. This aura even caused Mr. Jonathan to tremble slightly. However, it seemed like Sarah wasn't affected at all, her lips quirking into a small grin. She lightly laughed, "Mr. Smith, are you sure you want me to take off my sunglasses?" Yet Wilfred's response was still frosty, "Take them off." Behind those sunglasses, Sarah's eyes also glowed with light. Suddenly, she took two steps forward. When she stood in front of Wilfred, she stopped, bent down slightly, and leveled her gaze with that of the man, "Are you so curious about my face that you're not even afraid of being killed?"
