Chapter 30 : Letting go

The happy flush in my cheeks seems to be staying for good even as the day wears on. The only thing I can think about is Maxine and the fact that she will be able to contact her friend and be happy for real.
For the longest time, I’ve felt guilty about having to break them apart in this way. So I didn’t really feel any nerves or anything bad when I snuck into the evidence room in the Human facility to get her old cellphone.
It really was a shame that they wiped everything out, but thankfully I managed to find Maxine’s old ID in the bag, where she listed Livia as her emergency contact. That’s how I managed to get her name in the phone.
I’m thinking about it right now, how happy it would make her, as I pull up to the driveway of our mansion.
