Chapter 12 - Sophie Walters

The Walters' Mansion A maid suddenly rushed in and walked with a fast space towards the elegant woman who was sitting in the living room and in a respectful but excited tone, she said. "Madam, Miss Sophie is back!" The elegant woman blanked out for a while and looked lost and after coming back to her senses, she looked at the maid and asked for confirmation, "Did you just say that Sophie is back?" "Yes, madam! She is right outside the door and is about to come in." The maid nodded hurriedly as she spoke. Immediately after hearing that, the woman stood up agitatedly and rushed towards the door but before she got to the door, an excited and sweet looking girl ran towards her and screamed, "Mooom!" The girl hugged the woman who was Mrs Walters, Justin and Sophie's mom warmly and twirled around. "I really missed you soooo much, mom!" Mrs Walters didn't speak but her hands gently and dotingly stroked Sophie's hair as her tears threatened to spill out. After turning 25, Sophie had moved out of the house saying she wanted to start up her own business and also experience life abroad. She and Justin had tried to stop her but although Selena was really cute and sweet looking, she happened to be very stubborn, taking after her father in that. In the end, she could only compromise and let her go but on the precondition that if she didn't succeed after some years, she would come back home obediently. But after Sophie really did leave, she as a mother was constantly worried about her and would always find time to visit her during the first year she moved out. However, after that she had no idea what came over the girl because from the second year, she didn't allow anyone to come over saying that she would come home herself when she made progress in her career. And somehow she did, Sophie was now a renowned fashion designer both home and abroad. It came as a pleasant surprise when she received her call a month ago telling her she was coming back home and also would be introducing her fiancé and with her coming back, Mrs Walters could feel the hole in her heart filling up. Both women were so engrossed in the reunion that they did not initially notice a very handsome and gentle looking man looking gently and dotingly at the girl. Mrs Walters was the first person to notice him so she disengaged from the hug and politely asked the man though she already had a guess in her heart. "You are...." Sophie turned around curiously to look at the person her mom was talking to. She widened her eyes dramatically and slapped her forehead as she ran towards the man, "Darling, I am so sorry. I completely forgot about you when I met my mom." The man mouth twitched a little thinking, ' You should have said that a little more tactfully, darling. How can you say you completely forgot about me?' Sophie had no idea what was running through her man's mind and turned to her mother and introduced him happily, "Mom, this is my fiancé, Brian Coleman. He is the CEO of Worldview Software." Mrs Walters had heard of Worldview Software. They became hot 5 years ago and had won many awards for the softwares designed by the company. She had never expected the CEO to be so young and for him to end up being her future son-in-law. "Nice meeting you, Mr. Coleman." Brian chuckled good-naturedly and said gently to her, "Just Brian, calling me Mr. Coleman makes me sound distant and old." Mrs Walters looked amused at his words and agreed in a heartbeat. "Alright, Brian and you can call me mom." Permitting him to call her mom meant she was satisfied with him as her son-in-law. Brian also understood the hidden meaning and replied more sincerely, "Okay, mom." "But..." Mrs Walters turned to look at him seriously for a minute and continued,"...If you dare to hurt her in any way. You are going to regret it." Seeing how the situation turned serious, Sophie quickly cut in and went to hold her mom's arm and started acting cutesy. "Mom, don't worry about it. He can't bear to hurt me. He has been the one helping me abroad all this while." "Yes mom, I really can't bear to hurt her since my heart would be in much more pain." Brian assured her. Mrs Walters nodded her head and seemed satisfied at his answer and attitude. "But mom, where is my brother? Is he not at home?" Brian also looked curious at the answer. His brother-in-law was someone he admired and looked forward to meeting. After taking over his family business, he had brought it to new heights in ten years, something many found hard to do. Mrs Walters sighed helplessly and replied, "Since he and Nina...." Before she could say anything about her son and Nina's situation, Sophie cut in excitedly as she continued asking, "And Nina. Where is she? I miss her!" "They..." Mrs Walters continued but was interrupted by her, again. "Mom, how about we call them both and celebrate together? Me and brother now have a partner. Maybe we could also have a double wedding! So double happiness! what do you say?" She suggested excitedly. Sophie' words made Mrs Walters' mind turn quickly. She remembered she had been looking for an excuse to invite Nina over but hadn't been able to come up with one so far as they all seemed fake but now... A perfect excuse was here. Her lips curled up slyly as she replied normally trying hard to hide her glee , "Okay, how about this? You call Nina and I call Justin?" Sophie didn't think much about it and agreed immediately. Mrs Walters eyes twinkled with laughter, 'Silly child!' she thought. Brian looked at his fianceé who didn't know she had been sold out by her mother and shook his head helplessly. 'But I can't help thinking if the Nina they meant is the one I am thinking,' He thought to himself but then he shook his head 'What are the odds of that?" "How about taking a seat in the living room before giving them a call?" Mrs Walters suggested. "Sure!"
