Alana’s point of view.
I sat in the car, sharing lunch with Alec, but my mind was preoccupied with the way he skillfully avoided the conversation. After finding the courage to mention my feelings, he deftly changed the topic, focusing on our food. I wondered if perhaps I had misunderstood his intentions. He seemed genuinely engrossed in his meal, but I couldn't help but question whether my declaration had been swept aside unintentionally or deliberately. I couldn't afford to be foolish again, to risk falling for someone who might not catch me.
Throughout our meal, we conversed about trivial topics – dinner plans, grocery lists, and anything that didn't touch upon the three little words I had uttered. Our words danced around the elephant in the car, leaving my confession hanging in the air, unacknowledged.
As we drove back to the set, Alec's smile occasionally graced his lips. He was content just being with me, not needing to dwell on the conversation that loomed over us.
