Chapter 1
In Brooklyn, late May and early summer; there was a thunderstorm outside, and the wind and rain were coming.
In the Lincoln Family Mansion, a gorgeous crystal lamp hung above the living room, projecting a beautiful misty halo.
Grandpa George was holding the jade cane faucet while sitting on the sofa majestically, looking at the little girl who had grown up under his eyelids since she was a child, and asked in a deep voice, "Tell me the truth, is what I read from the newspaper true? You really booked a room with the prodigal son of the Robinson family?"
Maine Taylor stood in front of the old man. Her whole body was cold, and her face was drooping, not knowing whether she was shy or ashamed, "Grandpa, it's not what you think. I...I..."
She couldn't clean up after being in a complicated situation. Everyone stared at her with scrutinizing eyes. They're either mocking or watching a good show.
She carefully glanced at the man who was sitting on the side with the corner of her eye and only felt that her scalp was tingling.
What do you want her to say? Ask her to say that the one who was with her all night that night, is that his second uncle?
"Have you opened up with Jinn Robinson?! This matter is related to the reputation of our Lincoln family. You are the Lincoln family's granddaughter-in-law who is recognized by the outside world. How can you do such a rebellious thing?!"
The old man was really angry and his old cheeks flushed with anger.
Maine's small body shrank, gritted her teeth, and had no choice but to admit, "I did..."
"You kneel down to me!"
The old Mr. Lincoln got up with a cane, turned his back, his voice was old and angry.
"Grandfather……"
Maine raised her face and looked at her grandfather who had raised her for eighteen years with pitiful black eyes.
She was abandoned by her parents when she was born. If her grandfather hadn't taken her to raise her, she might have been frozen to death in the winter of the twelfth lunar month.
"I told you to kneel down, did you hear me?!"
Maine clenched her little hand. Her eyes were red, but she knelt down on both of her knees.
"Grandpa, I'm sorry, I let you down."
The old man turned around on crutches, frowning his old brows with unusual heartache, "My child, I always think you are very sensible, but I didn't expect that you would carry me and Euan on your back and do such an unconventional and rebellious thing! You and Euan are about to get engaged, and now it’s such a fuss, how do you want to end it?"
Maine choked as tears streaming out. She bit her pink lips and said, "Grandpa, I'm sorry..."
"It's useless to say I'm sorry. I treated you well as you are. How can you be part of our family? How can Euan want you?"
Maine knelt on the ground, moved to his side, raised her face and pulled his arm, begging, "Grandfather, I won't dare anymore..."
Suddenly a stubborn tone came--
"Is there anything I dare not ask? Isn't it just a film? Is it necessary to be so entangled?"
Everyone looked at the owner of the voice, the man was soaked in heavy rain, and there was even rain on his white face.
Only the cold man sitting on the other side of the sofa closed the finances in his hands while his eyes stared at her blankly.
Euan stepped forward from the door, walked to Maine's side, and pulled her up hard.
"Get up. Why do you need to kneel on him? You did nothing wrong!"
