Chapter 1 Why Did it Have to be Him? PART 2
The door banged open, and from the footsteps alone, it was evident that there were quite a few people outside. Cordelia, if caught, would be in for a grim fate.
Benedict stared at her as if she were a trapped bird, disdainfully remarking, "This building has dozens of floors. You have nowhere to escape!"
Cordelia suddenly squinted and smiled, revealing a set of clean teeth. Her delicate face looked innocent and obedient, quite endearing.
All of sudden, Benedict felt a chill down below.
The next moment, he saw the young woman holding a pair of trousers.
"I'll borrow your pants for a bit. It's all a misunderstanding. Scoundrel-handsome, farewell!" Cordelia used the trousers to tie to the window, holding onto the other end. With a leap, she disappeared without a trace.
At that moment, the door burst open.
The assistant, Richard Miller, rushed in with others, witnessing Benedict tied to the bed, his eyes wide with shock.
He hurriedly approached and untied the belt. "Mr. Radcliffe, are you okay?"
Benedict's eyes darkened terrifyingly. "Regardless of the means, find the woman who stole my pants. I will crush her with my own hands!"
Cordelia, having narrowly escaped, returned home.
She casually tossed the men's trousers into a corner of the bed and then fell asleep.
When she woke up, it was nearing noon.
The door swung open, revealing a figure in a dress. Celeste Montague walked in, spotting the men's trousers at Cordelia's bedside, her eyes expressing a mixture of shock and surprise.
It turned out Cordelia didn't come home last night because she went to meet a man.
Today, Celeste finally saw the fiancé Cordelia had been engaged to for over twenty years. Apparently, he was handsome and wealthy. Now Celeste had a reason to break them up!
Celeste picked up the trousers and ran outside, shouting loudly, "Mom, Dad, Cordelia had a secret rendezvous with a man last night and brought the man's pants back to her room."
Celeste's voice was loud enough for even the guests sitting downstairs to hear.
These guests were none other than the prestigious Radcliffe family from the city. Archibald Radcliffe's face changed instantly upon hearing Celeste's words.
The man sitting beside him, exuding a powerful aura, sneered disdainfully. "The Montague family's daughter is quite courteous."
Vincent Montague, with a cool and elegant demeanor, said, "Celeste, don't speak recklessly and defame Cordelia."
Today's blind date was arranged by Cordelia's biological mother before her passing. It was her final wish and could not afford any mistakes.
Celeste ran down from the second floor with the trousers in hand, raising them high. "Dad, look! I found these in Cordelia's room. There's no way it could be fake!"
Seeing her father doubting her words, Celeste continued, "She had a wild night yesterday and is still sleeping. She doesn't care at all about this meeting."
Benedict, the young and handsome CEO of the Radcliffe Group, sitting on the side, sneered. "Grandpa, are you really asking me to marry such an indulgent woman?"
Archibald's gaze became serious. "Before figuring out the situation, why are you in such a hurry?"
At this moment, Cordelia's stepmother, Eleanor Montague, secretly rejoiced. She originally intended to marry Cordelia off to an old man, but Cordelia's biological mother had already arranged her engagement. Now, with Cordelia in a scandal, it seemed to align perfectly with Eleanor's desires.
Eleanor pretended to wear a regretful expression and said, "Mr. Archibald, Mr. Benedict, I'm truly sorry. It seems this marriage isn't feasible."
Archibald suddenly stood up, his pupils widening. "Benedict, isn't this your pants?"
Benedict's pupils tightened as he stared at the elegant trousers, a custom-made pair imprinted with the exclusive BR logo.
Cordelia, hidden on the staircase, felt a chill climbing her spine. This was just too coincidental! Why did it have to be him?
If only she had acted discreetly last night!
Benedict lifted his gaze just in time to see a petite figure descending from the second floor. His handsome face instantly turned gloomy.
Cordelia wore a clean white short-sleeved shirt paired with casual jeans. Her long hair was tied up in a bun, and her round face was tender and delicate, with a hint of blush. She smiled sweetly at him, her black eyes clear and bright. "My dear fiancé, couldn't wait to see me bright and early, could you?"
Cordelia met the man's sharp gaze.
This wasn't just a simple arranged marriage. It was Cordelia's best way to break free from the constraints of the Montague family.
Archibald was pleased to see the adorable young lady and teased Benedict. "Did you sneak off to see her before informing me?"
Archibald even thought his grandson, who hadn't been in a relationship for over twenty years, might end up living a lonely life. But he was unexpectedly stripped of his pants. It seemed they had already developed an intimate relationship.
Benedict, with a stern face, stood up and declared, "I won't agree to this marriage, and I certainly won't marry her!"
