Chapter 143 Cordelia's Plan
Cordelia stepped out of the building, exhaling a stifled breath into the cold air, only to find herself engulfed in an even greater sense of oppression, like turbulent waves crashing, rendering her unable to breathe.
That year, when she visited Thomas, his face looked haggard through the glass window, his clean-shaven face a pallid gray. She had promised before that they would celebrate his birthday together every year. She sang the birthday song across the transparent barrier, blew out the candles, and wished him a happy birthday.
Thomas smiled back at her. "I can't eat the cake, so you'll have to eat for me."
"I've consulted a lawyer. He said we could fight for a reduced sentence, so you'll be out soon."
As they locked eyes through the glass, chatting for a while, when it was time for Cordelia to leave, Thomas's voice turned heavy. "Stop blaming yourself. Even if I had to do it all over again a hundred times, I wouldn't regret it."
