Chapter 16 Taking the Blame She Didn't Commit

Jason raised his eyebrows and shoved away Veronica silently as he looked at Charlotte. He recalled that Charlotte was always smart and knew what she should do. She kept things to herself instead of overreacting. Charlotte thought that Jason was blaming her, and out of exhaustion, she didn't bother to hide anything, so she said indifferently, "Take her away now, or I might beat her up again." Veronica widened her eyes. "How dare you!" "You haven't had enough from the beating, have you? Whatever happens to my mom will happen to you as well." With that, Charlotte leaned back against her chair and closed her eyes, trying to keep Jason and Veronica out of sight. The officer reminded her, "You need to get someone to bail you out, Ms. Seinfield, or you'll be detained for engaging in a fight." Charlotte looked at Jason out of instinct. Jason was the only one she could count on in that strange city. Jason seemed to read her mind through her look. He got quite proud and thought that he finally kept her in his control, so he looked down at Charlotte condescendingly. "Say something nice to me, and I'll take you to leave." Veronica flipped out and said, "She injured me, Jason. How could you forgive her..." "Your dad dropped by and begged me to give you a second chance. You'd better cherish it."Jason sounded utterly aloof. The officer was observant, and he knew that Jason had more feelings for Charlotte, so he kindly added, "The two ladies are here because of a fight. Ms. Seinfield might need a checkup to see if she has any internal injuries." He was implying Jason to take Charlotte to leave as soon as possible. Jason merely looked at Charlotte, quietly waiting for her to back down. He'd love to see her lower her head when she was at a disadvantage. Charlotte silently looked back at Jason with the anticipation in her eyes growing slimmer and slimmer when she smiled bitterly. She had thought that Jason would help her on account of their previous deal, but now she guessed she was wrong. She said to the officer indifferently, "How long will I be detained for?" "Seven days." Charlotte turned to look at Jason. "Could you give me seven more days to fix the contract with the Hoyce Group, Mr. Langley? When I'm released, I'll set my hands on it." "Are you telling me that you'd rather be detained?" Charlotte's answer stunned Jason, who was frowning hard. She had never been so stubborn before. Charlotte didn't answer to him, and Jason lost his patience. He turned to walk outside without backing down. "I'm not giving you seven more days. Figure out how to fix it by yourself." Veronica hurriedly followed while glancing at Charlotte proudly. After Jason left, Charlotte checked her contact list and finally called someone. When Jason sent Veronica home, she kept chattering on the way. Jason merely asked, "Why did you fight Charlotte?" Veronica didn't know how to answer. She stuttered and tried to pin all the blame on Charlotte when she was interrupted. "Why did you go to her mom?" It was dark inside the car. It hurt Veronica when she saw his sharp gaze. She was racking her brains to explain herself when Jason said, "Don't ever do it again." "Got it." When the car stopped by the entrance of the Jules Manor, Jason didn't even look up. Embarrassed, Veronica said goodbye to him and then got out of the car. After she left, Jason rubbed his temple and ordered in a soft voice, "Go to the police department." He wanted to go there to laugh at Charlotte. Perhaps she was too embarrassed to beg him since Veronica was there just now. However, when Jason arrived at the police department, his face darkened. "She has been taken away? Who took her?" The officer showed an awkward smile. "I don't know. I was busy handling something else." Jason dialed Charlotte's number with his face darkened right away, but he was hung up, which he found hard to believe. He got furious, which was terrifying, and gnashed his teeth to say, "Go to her apartment." His chauffeur was so startled that he held his breath. Right then, Charlotte was at the apartment of her bestie, Yvonne Froyer. She was lost in thought, dazed. Yvonne carefully applied medicine to Charlotte's bruises and felt distressed. "I was merely gone for half a month. How could you end up like this?" "I got unlucky." "Weren't you leaving? Why would you stay around him?" Yvonne pressed Charlotte's bruise out of distress, which brought her so much pain that she came back to her senses and muttered, "Something unexpected happened." She couldn't keep what happened to her a secret any longer, so she told it all to Yvonne. Yvonne frowned harder and harder. In the end, she stopped what she was doing and looked at Charlotte with a serious look. "So what are you going to do now? Are you just going to do whatever Jason tells you to do if Mr. Hoyce doesn't agree to modify the contract? It's about 2 billion. You'll get to never pay it up even if you stick with Jason forever." Charlotte took a long breath and asked, "Do you think I can settle this in court?" Yvonne was a famous lawyer, so she knew better about that. "You can do that, but it will need Jason's help." Yvonne had taken such financial cases. She had a rough plan when Charlotte told her about what happened. "Jason will help, of course. This is about his company." Charlotte didn't know why Yvonne would emphasize that. Unexpectedly, Yvonne shook her head and continued, "With Jason's power, it would just take him an order to fix this, but he didn't do anything about it and just watched as you did whatever you could to fix it. He's even threatening you with the contract. I don't think he's pressuring you to settle it but for another motive." Charlotte was stunned and didn't know what to say. What Yvonne said made sense. Just as the two of them were silent, Charlotte's phone suddenly rang. She checked the screen and hung up directly. The phone kept ringing, and she kept hanging it up. Then, she got a message. [How dare you hang me up? What will happen to your mom's treatment?] After that, Jason called again. Charlotte picked it up unwillingly and greeted him in a dejected tone, "Mr. Langley." Jason seemed to be holding back his anger. "Where are you?" "I'm at my friend's place." Jason sounded furious. "Your friend's place? Your contract with the Langley Group hasn't been terminated, and you just can't wait to sleep with Silas, can you? Looks like I've become a matchmaker." As he kept talking about Silas, Charlotte's eyes darkened. It turned out that she was always so cheap to him. She didn't know why she used to have feelings for him. Yvonne couldn't stand it. Just as she was about to rebuke Jason, Charlotte admitted what he said out of despair. "You just see everything, don't you, Mr. Langley? I'm going to sleep now. Goodbye." "Are you stupid, Charlotte? Why are you taking the blame that you didn't commit?" Yvonne glared at her with a distressed look.
