Chapter 75: Maria Is Jealous
Sarkon cradled that soft cheek in his palm. His thumb moved on its own, caressing the fine, silky skin.
"I did not go on a date, Maria," his voice was a low whisper, hoarse and strained. "We were in the middle of a discussion so I could not take your call."
Maria was lost in those eyes. They were drawing her soul out, sending waves of heat up the back of her legs and her back. The top of her head felt numb.
Another huge hand snuggled against her other cheek like a lonely puppy. Sarkon stepped closer and lowered his face onto hers. "Karl says you are ill."
Her sorrowful eyes twinkled back.
"Are you alright, Maria?" his whisper became feathery.
Maria shook her head.
Those beautiful brows came together in a worried V. The hand on her left cheek lifted onto her forehead, flattening its palm against it.
She looked back with her emeralds glistening with an unspoken pain that stemmed from years of longing for the affection she truly desired.
