Maria stared wide-eyed at the dot on the screen. "It's tiny," she breathed.
"Yes," the doctor remarked. "Not even the size of a grain of rice, but it's there." She leaned back and ushered the towering giant to move forward.
Sarkon peered at the black dot on the screen and was instantly lost for words. His limbs felt cold and numb. This was… his child. He was a father now. He tore his gaze from the screen and looked at Maria just as she did the same, and their gazes locked again.
He watched those emerald eyes search his face like they were seeking an answer to a burning question. For the first time in his life, the beast was distracted. For the first time, the baby took his focus.
'Will I be a good father?'
It was a simple yes-or-no question, yet it was the most complicated question that Sarkon had ever faced. He forced himself to look back at the screen. A sense of chilling fear washed up his back and overtook his body.
