Maria made a Herculean effort to not look over her shoulder at the beast trailing quietly behind her.
She could feel his eyes on her and couldn't stop thinking about their sharp, blue shade. Soon, she'd forgotten that she was walking on the beach. There were only Sarkon and her walking aimlessly, one in front of the other.
This was supposed to be a leisure stroll, she reminded herself.
Maria halted and took in a deep breath. She lifted her eyes to the fresh morning sky and quietly inhaled a long, deep breath. The cool, salty breeze filled her nose and freshened her clogged mind.
