"Damn, Lucas, your reflexes are fast. That could've burned Tiffany." Mason exhaled, shaking his head as the tension settled.
All eyes turned to Tiffany. She had also been near the grill.
Tiffany, always poised, offered a reassuring smile. "I'm fine. No harm done."
The one who had actually caused the commotion—Sophia—rushed over, gripping Tiffany's hands like she was on the verge of tears. "I swear I didn't mean to! That scared the hell out of me, Tiffany. I'm so sorry!"
Tiffany patted her head lightly. "It's okay. Really."
Evelyn's fingers curled slightly. She then understood that Lucas hadn't jumped in to protect her. It had been about Tiffany. The only reason he had reacted so fast—so recklessly—was because he thought Tiffany was in danger.
It was only ever her.
Lucas—always composed, always unreadable—had lost his cool for one person.
And it wasn't for Evelyn.
Jason, who had been keeping an eye on Evelyn, seemed to check her over for injuries before finally relaxing back in
