As Ares yelled in the background, the python’s tail lashed out at me.
The python advanced aggressively, and I had nowhere to hide. I could only watch as its tail whipped toward me.
Just as I was about to brace myself for the inevitable, Ares swiftly descended the rope and rolled behind me, shielding me from the python’s attack.
“Mgh!” I heard a grunt above me. I saw the thwack of the python’s tail striking but didn’t feel any pain, which meant Ares bore the brunt of the attack.
Before I could ask Ares if he was okay, I sensed an unrelenting attack heading our way.
The python opened its maw, breathing out the stench of blood that left me woozy. I felt sick to my stomach.
“Hold tight!” Ares said and pushed off the cliff wall with his foot, nearly escaping from the python’s strike.
“How are you doing down there?” Larson’s voice echoed from above. He grasped the rope with all his might, but he couldn’t pull us up on his own.
