Hayden's mind was far from calm. As long as he stayed by Ophelia's side, I wouldn't have a chance. But now, I had reappeared in her life and even became her driver.
This sparked a sense of crisis in Hayden, despite me telling him that nothing would happen. He lacked confidence in himself.
"You don't need to be so polite with me. As long as you're happy, I'll be happy," Hayden said, reaching for Ophelia's hand. That was the extent of their intimacy.
Over the years, Ophelia had resisted anything beyond the basics. Hayden never forced things, so their relationship remained at simple meals, chats, walks, and the occasional hand-holding. They never kissed, let alone anything more.
