I answered, "No. I've never regretted it."
When Ophelia heard my answer, the faint glimmer of hope in her eyes seemed to die out completely. The light vanished, leaving her gaze empty and dark.
She lowered her head and let out a short, hollow laugh. A moment later, she looked back up at me.
Her eyes were red, brimming with tears she refused to let fall. Her emotions swirled, complex, and barely held together, as she fought to stay in control.
With a hoarse voice, she pulled a card from her bag and held it up.
"Great. Now I know what I wanted to know," she said, her tone brittle but cutting. "I'll give you the money. But from now on, your life belongs to me."
She tossed the card at my feet. "The password is 111111. There's two million dollars in the account. Handle your business. You have one week to cut ties with her completely."
She threw the car keys to Hudson before stepping past me without sparing another glance.
"From now on, I decide whether you live or die," she said,
