Chapter 21 Maids

“Oh ho, you… This is my house, my room, and my bed. Is there a problem if I don’t wear clothes? Also, you’re my wife, and I’m your husband. You’ll have to get used to this kind of situation.” As Myles spoke, his anger faded and he turned around instead, deliberately moving closer to the embarrassed Annie as he cajoled her with his soft words. These words once again made Annie feel extremely awkward. She desperately wished she could find a hole to crawl into and hide. Seeing that Annie was so intimidated that she did not dare to even lift her head, Myles's mood instantly took a turn for the better. It seemed that his life would no longer be boring in the future. “Haha.” Myles laughed as he left the bed and walked to the bathroom to take a shower. Along the way, he said a short “come on in” as he was at the door. The two maids who had already been shocked by the sound of Myles’s laughter took a long while to react before knocking on the door and walking into the room. They looked at each other blankly and exchanged glances. Right, they must have misheard. Would the big boss with the face of a ten-thousand-year-old iceberg even know how to laugh? “Uh… Good day, miss. We are…” “I’m… I’m not your ‘miss’!” Without listening clearly to what the two maids were saying, Annie’s brain had tied itself into a knot and incoherent words spilled out. Once the words were out of Annie’s mouth, she wished she could bang her head on a wall. Goodness, what exactly was she thinking… “Ah… No, no, no, that’s not what we meant. What I was saying was…” Annie’s sudden words shocked the speaking maid, and her hands flailed frantically as she explained. How could she dare to say that Annie was the ‘miss’? She had never seen Myles bring a woman back to the house before, and if she was the mistress of the house… Then unless the Earth turned in the reverse direction, and the sun rose from all four directions of north, south, east, and west… “Sorry, I misunderstood.” Annie lowered her head, annoyed at herself. She wanted to slap herself. What exactly was in her mind all day? Perhaps subconsciously, Annie’s sense of inferiority made her have this kind of thought. Annie was so ashamed she could not lift her head, and her face had turned bright red. “You don’t have to blame yourself. It was us who spoke inappropriately. These are the clothes that Mr. Jennings had us prepare for you, so please go ahead and change into them.” Since they did not know Annie’s surname, they could only omit to address her. Their faces still looked nervous, for fear that Annie would be offended. Annie glanced at the casual business attire that had been placed by the bed. Tailored precisely and in a modest deep blue color, she had liked it at first sight, but… “Thank you. I’m Annie Lane. You guys can just call me Annie.” Suppressing the uncertainty in her heart, Annie flashed them a benevolent smile. Their ages were similar to Annie’s and they looked pleasant. They appeared to be of good temperaments and looked exceptionally friendly. “Nice to meet you, Ms. Lane.” The two maids exchanged glances before bowing curtly and speaking respectfully. Annie pursed her lips and nodded. It seemed impossible to get them to just call her by her name… “Tidy up a bit and come with me to work.” Myles came out of the bathroom with his upper body bare. He had a six-pack embedded in his bronze skin, and he looked full of strength and vigor, making him more attractive than attractive. Sitting on the bed, Annie was in a daze from looking at him. In a flash, her cheeks burned up and her heart jumped into her throat. Although the two maids’ faces were also red and their heads were lowered, they were probably used to this type of situation. Annie suddenly felt an odd pang of jealousy… She was very dissatisfied with Myles; behavior. He should pay more attention to his image… “The one who should put on clothes is you.” Annie pursed her lips and got off the bed resentfully. She grabbed Myles’ shirt that had been placed by the bed and tossed it at him, her tone rather hostile. She had disregarded the “work” that Myles mentioned. Only when they arrived at the company entrance would she belatedly realize… This would all come later though. Annie’s sudden temper confused Myles, and he frowned slightly. Nevertheless, he still reached for the shirt and threw it on his body. “What’s your problem?” As he buttoned up his shirt, he peered at Annie from the side. His attractive eyes were filled with the image of her red face. An ambiguous atmosphere flowed between the two of them. “I… I’m going to take a shower…” she said. Annie’s heart pounded like thunder for more than ten seconds as her eyes met Myles’ before she hastily averted his gaze. Her breathing became labored. As if she had received a shock, she frantically sat up from the bed. She was still wearing the clothes she had worn yesterday, and her movements were panicked, not caring how she looked. Even the watching maids found it very strange. Although Myles had never brought a woman back to stay the night before, the Jennings family had hosted banquets, and there were countless famous women who would dress up to show off during those times. Their movements were always elegant, as if they were filming a movie. None of them were like Annie, who did not care for her image… “Ms. Lane… Let us assist you inside.” One of the maids stepped forward, but her words scared Annie so much that her face paled. Assist?! In this modern era, could it be that… they still assisted Myles in showering?! Seeing the odd look that Annie gave him, Myles glared at her impatiently. He really had no idea what sort of thoughts filled her head all day.
