Chapter 15 I Have a Girlfriend

Ethan frowned and his orchid fingers tapped Annie's head. "What nonsense, my relationship with my Honey is fine. I'm worried about you. I saw the news. Mason and Sophie got married today. I knew my bad feelings about Mason were right! I can’t believe he hooked up with that shrewd minx. Girly, if you feel bad or anything, just tell me. Don’t try to do anything stupid, okay?” Ethan looked sad. He knew how deeply Annie felt about Mason. It was also because he knew how she felt toward him that Ethan thought that the whole thing was a blessing rather than a curse. Even if Mason had moved on to someone else, Ethan could not accept that that someone else was Sophie. It felt like he gave someone his baby but they decided to just chuck it away. Ethan wanted to crash the wedding but he was more concerned about the possibility of Annie falling into depression. Even though Ethan had other ideas to help her overcome it, he still wanted to talk things out with her, and the one thing he hoped the most for her was happiness. When the unhealed scar was dug into again, Annie felt an unspeakable bitterness in her heart. With a bitter smile, she said, "Didn’t the tabloids report me crashing the wedding?” Annie gave an ugly smile and Ethan could see through her strong facade from a glance. "Look at you, giving such promising news. That’s rare.” Ethan’s tone sounded a bit lonely but Annie was still immersed in her own thoughts and did not realize it, nor did she see the burning gaze Ethan gave her at that moment. "Ethan, I got married too." When Annie said that, she opened her handbag and handed the surprised Ethan the little red book. Ethan paused for a long time before he stretched out his shaking hands. Annie's words left his brain blank. Married?! His Girly got married?! When he saw the two people with their heads side by side in the photograph, Ethan finally believed that Annie was telling the truth. Even though the two of them were not smiling in the photograph, he thought that they looked particularly good together. When he saw the date on the photograph, he realized it was that same day. Ethan almost planted his head on the wall! He should have met up with Annie earlier! "Ethan, are you okay?" Annie looked at Ethan, who had sweat all over his forehead. She waved her hand anxiously in front of his face and asked with concern. When Ethan heard her question, he lowered his head so that Annie could not see his face. However, his true feelings were more desolate than the Autumn weather in September. "I... nothing, I'm happy for you." Ethan lowered his voice and tears oozed out of the corner of his eyes. He lifted his finger to wipe it away. Annie was moved. In her eyes, Ethan was indeed her best girlfriend. ... While Annie calmed Ethan's emotions, her newly-wed husband, Myles, was also trying to console someone harmoniously. "Grandpa, I promise to always come back to see you, okay?" Myles returned to his old house after sending Annie to Nanjing Road. The Jennings Family’s old house was a low-key three-story house located in a remote military area. No one knew about Myles’s tragic family background. His grandfather was the commanding officer in the military region. When he was serving in the military, he was a high-ranked general and very respected. Sadly, Myles's father died in battle during his early years so Mrs. Jennings would not let Myles join the army. Grandpa Jennings loved his only grandson. He knew he was getting older so he decided to put more care on his family and was not against Myles going into business. However, there was still one thing… “Myles, I understand that you’re busy with work, but you shouldn’t delay the important things in life. I made an appointment for you to meet with Uncle Lou's daughter tomorrow. She just got back from the United States. She’s highly educated and beautiful. I think you two will be a good match. Here, this is her photo. Take a look.” Since Grandpa Jennings was in the army for many years, he had an overbearing quality to him. Although his tone was kind, his eyes were serious when he stared at Myles. Fortunately, Myles had gotten used to it and probably also learned it from him. That explained why Myles had this aura around him that no one else had. Myles stood by the sofa and looked at the photo the old man handed him. The person in the photo was a little blurry, but he could tell from her delicate figure that she was a beautiful lady. Mrs. Jennings shot a glance at him from the side. Since Myles's father passed away, Mrs. Jennings had been enjoying a peaceful life and living with Myles’s grandfather in that house. It was normal for people to find something to do when they had more free time in their hands. Myles was 27 years old and one of the important things in his life that were expected of him was to become the head of Jennings Family. Due to that reason, Myles often found himself making excuses to not go back home. He was always set up for blind dates every time he went back and every time he rejected them, the nagging went on and on. "Myles, your grandfather carefully chose her for you. I’ve met the girl too. She has a good personality, looks beautiful, and has seen the world. Your father was really close to your Uncle Lou before he passed away. If he was still alive, he would definitely agree to this." When Myles’s mother saw him frowning and refusing to take the picture, she started to get a little anxious and deliberately used the story of his father to make Myles compromise. When he heard what she said, Myles sighed and then sat next to Grandpa Jennings. His words were slow when he said, "Grandpa, Mom. I already have a girlfriend. I came back today to tell the two of you about her, so the two of you can stop planning blind dates for me in the future."
