Chapter 16: As for Women, I'm Not Interested

Madam Burton approached, squeezing Ethan's hand, asking, "Does it hurt, my dear Ethan?" "Nope," Ethan shook his head, "I'm a tough guy, and we tough guys don't fear pain." "Good boy," Madam Burton was pleased. "I've organized a room for you full of toys. Do you want me to show you?" "Thanks~ I want Mommy to take me," Ethan pointed at Stacey. Madam Burton paused, and then said heavily, "Ethan, you have your mother. She's your sister, not your mommy." Ethan fell silent, his head down, obviously not pleased. Suddenly, Madam Burton had an idea, "Ethan, is your mommy still alive?" Ethan looked up, tears streaming down his cheeks. Madam Burton's heart ached, "Alright, I won't ask anymore. My poor great-grandson grew up without a mother. It's heartbreaking." Stacey was speechless. She was still alive, wasn't she? Conor frowned, his voice hoarse, "Is she dead?" Ethan stayed quiet. "Don't ask anymore, especially with that attitude!" Madam Burton was so angry that she wished to smack Conor with her cane. "What kind of father are you?" "Grandma, it's my first day as a father," Conor's dark eyes were deep and cold. "Whatever." Madam Burton said. "Grandma, I want a mommy. I want her to be my mommy, okay?" Ethan cried. Ethan was now Madam Burton's precious gem. She would do whatever he wished. "Okay, if it makes you happy," Madam Burton was completely indulgent towards Ethan. Ethan was thrilled. He ran to Stacey, holding her hand, "Mommy, play with me." Stacey could only nod dumbly, "Okay, let's play." Just wait. I'm going to tire you out! Such a naughty boy! Watching Ethan and Stacey go upstairs, Madam Burton turned to Conor, her eyebrows knitted together, "Listen, from now on, I won't accept anyone questioning Ethan." Conor stayed quiet. "I initially planned to bring Ethan's biological mother here once you found her, regardless of what kind of woman she is, as long as she's decent-looking and sane. That'd be better than Stacey," Madam Burton said, "But if she's gone, so be it." After all, Ethan seems to like Stacey. Let's keep Stacey for now. The future lady of the Burton family can be chosen later. "Grandma, are you planning to throw her away?" Conor's eyes were chilly. Madam Burton was surprised, "What do you mean?" "Grandma, remember why Stacey married into the Burton family," Conor's tone was cold, "Now that I have a son, even if I'm gone one day, there's an heir to the family. As for women, I'm not interested." With that, he turned and headed upstairs. "Does he think that having a son is all the responsibility he owes to me? I'm more worried he'll wind up alone in his old age!" Madam Burton vented her frustration. "Madam, please calm down," Elodie comforted. "It's more important to keep the young master's life safe. What will we do if we send Stacey away and his health worsens, and young Ethan isn't grown up yet?" Madam Burton paused, realizing she had overlooked this thing. Recently, he appeared to be ordinary, almost making her forget about his illness. Was this Conor's destiny? To spend his life with a simple-minded woman? Heartbroken, Madam Burton didn't want to talk anymore. Elodie led her back to her room for rest. Stacey brought Ethan to the children's room. She sat cross-legged on the floor, arms folded, sternly staring at Ethan, "Why did you come here?!" "Mommy, I came because I was worried when I heard you were taken to the wilderness by that woman," Ethan replied. "Do you think I'm a pushover? I could easily squash ten of those women like bugs. I didn't want to stir up any trouble." Stacey glared at him, "And how did you find out Conor is your father?" Even she didn't know. "That's why, Mommy, you can't leave your genius son behind," Ethan shamelessly replied. "I hacked into the Green family's surveillance terminal. I got the entry and exit records from six years ago and identified him." Stacey raised an eyebrow. "Out of everyone, he was the most handsome. Look at your handsome son. My dad can't possibly be an ugly guy, right?" Ethan explained. "I think you didn't analyze anything. You just went for the good looks," Stacey said. "Mommy, it's unsafe for you to leave the Burton family like this. If you have any urgent matters to handle, you'll easily be found out without someone to cover for you," Ethan smirked. "And see, whatever I say, great-grandma believes. She won't be suspicious." Stacey paused. He was right about this. She had many things to handle in Zephyria and couldn't stay in the Burton family forever. She would have to go out sometimes. "So, Mommy, isn't it good for me to stay?" Ethan asked. "No!" Stacey shot back. "Do you realize how dangerous it is if people find out Conor has a son? Conor's uncles are watching him. They're hoping for him to die soon so they can take his place. By stepping forward, you're bringing danger upon yourself." "Mommy, don't worry. I had everything investigated before I came," Ethan assured her, patting her shoulder like an old sage. "I'm your son, don't worry." Stacey was speechless. Just then, they heard footsteps outside. Both quickly adjusted their positions, sprawling on the floor pretending to study a toy train. Conor walked in, seeing them play together, a peaceful scene. Somehow, he found this sight incredibly warming. "Stacey, step outside," Conor's voice was icy. Stacey tilted her head back, her eyes twinkling like black grapes, "But Stacey wants to play with Ethan." She even planned on sleeping here tonight. After all, sleeping next to Conor held the risk of her cover being blown at any moment. "It's late. You can play tomorrow," Conor narrowed his eyes, adding menacingly, "Do you need me to carry you out?" Stacey was taken aback. What was he implying with that statement? Was he testing her again? "Okay, okay, Stacey loves being held and lifted high," Stacey played along, portraying her role as a simple-minded woman. However, a glint of deep intent flashed in Conor's eyes. He walked over, took Stacey's hand, and pulled her to her feet. Then, he embraced her tightly, leaned down, and lifted her horizontally. Stacey was instantly on high alert. He did it!
