“Are you going to tell me anything?” I asked, looking at Avario's back.
“Not yet,” he said. “Maybe when we stop for the night.” He still didn't look back; he seemed tense, I told myself.
“Tell me about your mate,” I urged him once more.
“She's dead,” he said with a heavy voice, “but I will tell you. I met her here. She had hair as golden as your brother's and eyes as green as yours. Sometimes I think I became friends with your brother simply because of his hair and your eyes,” he said softly.
“Her voice was like the jingling of bells. Strangely enough, she couldn't sing to save her life. She danced. She stood on her tiptoes, reaching for the sky with her hands. She would hear for contact but don't stage she would see so far away,” he said, his eyes becoming cloudy. “She was beautiful. Small, slim stature. Soft, sensual, and most importantly, sweet.
