Chapter 2: Another on his lap

Talia Without thinking much, I burst straight into his room and stopped dead in my tracks when I found him on the phone. "Super, Talia," he said with a straight face. "I'll call you back, my love," he said and then hung up to stare at me with the same blank expression. I suddenly chuckled. "About last night, was it a dream?" I asked. "What was?" he asked with concern in his eyes. "Nothing," I shook my head and then walked over to his window. "Talia," he called out to me. "Was it a dream?" I asked as I turned around. "Are you delusional?" he asked. "No," I shook my head. "I'm just trying to make sense of what I think happened." "What do you think happened?" he asked, placing his hands on his desk. "That you told me to leave, which makes no sense. And then you said a number of really hurtful things that I know you would have never said to me before. There has to be something wrong, right?" I asked, walking over to him and taking a seat. He smiled, making my heart thump faster than usual. Still smiling, he pulled out an envelope from the bottom drawer and handed it to me. "What is this?" I asked, not knowing whether or not to be excited. "Open it," he said softly. Now, I had taken a seat close to Darius, and he casually tossed the envelope into my hands. Unsure of what it contained, I raised my head with a questioning look. “Open it.” he instructed again. Slowly, I tore the envelope open. I wondered if it contained document of a treaty, a business, or something else. However, when I read the content, the document fell out of my hands. “What is this, Darius?” I asked, unable to believe what my eyes had just seen. “Tell me this is some sort of prank. I said with a better laugh. “It is just like you've seen it, Talia. Sign the document and let us go our separate ways.” “Are you saying we should get a divorce?” I asked mortified, unable to believe what I had just seen. Darius only nodded at me, refusing to give an explanation. “But why? I mean, we are fine. We get along, and we… we are mated.” “You only want to believe we are fine! You could be fine with this, but I'm not. I don't believe in the mate bullshit. I think we're better off going our separate ways, plus, Celine is back to the pack.” Oh! That was the reason. She always was. “Why are you still hung up on Celine? I'm your fated mate, and I believe we are getting somewhere. We've made reasonable progress in our marriage. So why can't you just forget about her?” I was sobbing now, and it felt like my heart was breaking into thousands of pieces. My wolf was sad too, but Darius looked less bothered. “Do I really have to spell it out to you? I only accepted you as my mate because of my parents. Celine is an asset to the pack. She's way stronger and would make a great Luna. She's not an Omega.” “So last night was true then, my mind wasn't playing tricks on me. You said all those things… everything. You meant every word.” “ Yes. You and do your father and the court forced this on me Talia. At least they could have tried with you being strong enough but not you. He found as he eye to me from top to bottom. You filthy omega.” He spat. Now, that stung. The first reason why Darius was reluctant to accept me as his fate was because I am Omega. “Is this the end for us?” I asked, the tears rolling down my cheeks uncontrollably. “You mentioned you had something to say.” Darius commented, ignoring my question. “I don't think you need to hear it anymore. It's useless.” “Very well then. You can sleep here tonight, but you have to sign the document and move out tomorrow. Celine needs somewhere to stay, so she would be moving in.” “Can't you see that Celine only wants the position that comes with being beside you? She only wants to be Luna! She disappeared for no reason and now she's back again. There's the Moon goddess curse too. Are you not tired of doing the wrong thing?” “It is not like you're any better, Talia. You gladly accepted it because you wanted to escape your faith one that you pulled me into. Talia you and your father. You and your brother all of you nothing more than sharks and leeches trying to munch of the Pack. It ends now. And I'm better off with Celine at least she's strong enough..” “Tell me, Darius. If you had this much disinterest and distrust in me, why did you accept me as your mate? Why did you hold me like I was the most precious possession in the world? Why did you make love to me?” “Stop being so annoying, Talia! I only accepted you as my mate because of my duty and how important it was to ensure the pack was kept safe. Left to me, I would have rejected you right on the spot, and it was just sex. Nothing more, nothing less.” Feeling my heart shatter, I picked up the paper and the pen beside it and scribbled my signature, wasting no time. I stood up, ready to leave, but took one more look at him. He suddenly looked up and smiled—a face I had never seen but one I knew all too well that he reserved for someone else. Biting my lip, I turned around. "I didn't think he would still be here," Celine said. "And I didn't think my spot would be taken, but here we are," I said, forcing out a smile. She practically giggled, reminding me of the dream and the voice I heard on the phone. "You always had your way with words, Talia," he smiled and walked up to me. "I thought you would actually be leaving. But clearly, I don't know enough about an omega's pride. And correct me if I'm wrong, but am I missing something?" she said as she tapped her foot. "Since you have already signed the divorce, you have also relinquished your title to me. What are you still doing here?" "If you're wondering whether or not she has the same compassion as we do, you don't," Darius said as his voice moved closer, signaling that he was walking towards me. "Since I have signed the papers, I can do whatever I want," I said, not sparing a glance at either of them. "And since I have signed the papers, I will be taking my leave now, as promised." I forced a smile, not wanting her to see the satisfaction of defeating me. As soon as I left his study, the tears came out once again with a vengeance. I ran up to my room, and instead of burying my head in my pillow like I wanted, I pulled myself together and started packing. "Luna." I turned around to find Edna staring at me nervously. "What is it?" I asked her, cleaning my eyes. "I would like to help you," she said softly. I shook my head. "You're under no obligation to help, Edna. If anything, I'm sure the new Luna will ensure that you don't," I said. "I have served you for over three years, Luna. I believe you are mine. I will not accept her simply because she walks in here and behaves like she owns the place." With that, she walked up to me and started helping me pack. "Thank you," I said softly, trying to focus on the task at hand. "I know everybody else has their conclusions about omegas, but I don't think you're like them," she said, smiling at me. "You don't know what you mean to me, Edna," I said, shaking my head softly.
