Chapter 16

AMY “What did you say?” I didn’t know when the words left me but it certainly hurt me to hear my mate scream he loved another woman before me. Why did it bother me so much?! “This is none of your business!” he blurted and I felt irritated to the core. “Mom, where is the painting?!” I glanced at his mother who seemed pretty much reserved but there was still a hint of anger reflecting on her. “I won’t ask again.” My palms curled seeing him defend this woman so much. I always knew something was off about the painting but I didn’t expect it to be this bad. I hated it. I hated seeing him this way. “In the drawing room,” she finally answered, and he immediately stormed up the stairs. The only noise that filled the house was the sound of Logan’s thumping feet. “Who is she?” I demanded icily and the maid lowered their heads. “Mrs. Wilson, who is she?” “Logan is in the better position to answer that,” she replied, deliberately ignoring me by fiddling with the packages. “Enough of this!” I yelled and she slowly turned to me. Her eyes were expressing so much but I wasn’t going to buy this. “Amy, you don’t have to worry about anything, okay? It’s a personal issue between Logan and me.” Without thinking twice, I headed up the stairs to Logan’s room. “Logan!” I yelled whilst sauntering into the room. There he was, about to enter the bathroom. “Is there a problem?” he queried in that deadly icy tone but it wasn’t going to work on me. Maybe it was the mate bond, but I wasn’t terrified of that countenance of his. Or perhaps it was my own anger. “Who is the lady in the painting?!” “None of your business.” I sped towards him in an instant blocking his path to the bathroom door. “Answer me!” “Get out of my way!” “Who is she?!!” “Amy…” His eyes glowed alpha red. “Are you going to hit me?” “Why are you bothered? I thought you said love is something you don’t want to consider.” “That doesn’t mean I should tolerate my mate cheating on me!” He scoffed, “Cheating? Get out of the way, Amy.” “I guess you wouldn’t mind if you see me flirting with one of your pack members, they’re quite sexy you know.” He growled as he closed the gap between us, his breaths heavily basking all over my face. It gave me more thrills than I expected and I lost my tongue in the process. “Don’t you ever, ever make that kind of statement again,” he ordered in a tone that commanded so much authority that my wolf had to submit. The power of the Alpha King was truly frightening. Our eyes refused to leave each other and the look of anger that once gleamed in his eyes were now replaced with that of lust and passion. He wanted to eat me up and my body and soul more than ever enjoyed the rhythm. I wanted him to close the gap further, to have a feel of his sturdy chest, to feel the warmth of his lips across my skin. At the same time, I didn’t want to succumb to these useless feelings. Love was a distraction and he was doing a pretty good job. “You,” he whispered while he ran the back of his fingers delicately and slowly across my cheek. My skin shuddered and my breaths toured out shakily. “You’re quite the stubborn Luna,” “And you’re quite the deceitful Alpha King,” I whispered. His eyes reverted back to gold as he raised my chin with the tip of his index and thumb. I quickly snapped his hands off me. To think I was such a fool to fall for his antics. I left his side and he smirked. “You know you keep giving me more reason not to trust you,” I said and he inhaled deeply. “Don’t meddle in affairs that are not yours,” he retorted before easing through the door. My teeth gritted as I frustratingly sat on the bed. He wasn’t going to tell me and my curiosity wasn’t going to die either. But the most baffling thing here was the fact that I cared too much about this lady! When the night came, the celebrations had already kicked in at the Pack’s field which by the way, was the largest I’ve ever come by in my life. The fireworks, the music, the cheers, the sumptuous meals and the night’s chill air were all in perfect sync with each other. But that didn’t mean I was comfortable. And Logan who I had hoped would help me deal with my dilemma was nowhere to be seen. We still hadn’t settled yet and so I chose to stick with Sarah. “So what’s up with you and Logan?” she asked while walking across the field with a cup of ice cream in our hands. “Nothing,” I chirped. “It’s obvious, Amy, both of you have been maintaining your distance since the celebrations began. Logan can be quite annoying sometimes—“ “Stop advocating for him,” I cut her off in a lazy fashion. “He’s a real jerk.” She chuckled. “I guess he pushed your buttons pretty hard then. Wanna tell me?” I was about to take another scoop of my ice cream until I felt a throbbing pain in my chest. I almost lost the last of my breaths, my legs wobbled and my cup fell as I lost grip of my body. “Amy!” Sarah quickly held my arms to stop me from falling. “What’s wrong?!” she queried, but I could barely process anything. My limbs had grown incredibly weak and the throbbing pain wouldn’t stop either. “Amy!” She yelled. “I need to get you to the Pack doctor!” My vision became blurry and my hearing senses were receding too. “What’s wrong with her?!” Logan suddenly appeared in front. “I don’t know she just—“ He quickly came to my side and carried me in his arms. His heart was racing like sports cars. “I’ll call the Pack doctor!” Sarah muttered. “Don’t worry!” That was the last thing I heard till I succumbed to the darkness. *** Once my eyes opened to the golden lights from the ceilings, I realized I was back on Logan’s bed. I tried to sit up but there was a hand towel on my head and I could barely still feel myself, the throbbing pain was still there but had reduced to some extent. The room door opened and Logan sauntered in with a white tray holding a cream cup. “You’re awake finally,” he mumbled as he placed the tray by my bedside. “You passed out for an hour.” “Wha— what's wrong with me?” I intoned weakly. He helped me sit up and then felt my neck to check my temperature before sitting beside me. “It’s the side effect of your first transformation. But you shouldn’t worry much, the side effects reduce drastically till your body is fully accustomed to your wolf.” “And how long is that going to take?” “Two or three more transformations.” I sighed while he took the small cup housing a dirty brown liquid. “Here,” he offered. “It will help with the pain.” He said and I concurred before he slowly gave me the liquid. I spat it out onto the floor immediately. “I made that,” he remarked. “It’s terrible!” “But it’s good for the body.” He gave me a sip again and I had to force myself not to spill it. Tension started to dawn as our eyes stayed glued to each other. He returned the cup to the tray and then sighed. “Her name is Charlotte.”
