Chapter 13

LOGAN “Take her to the pack doctor,” I mumbled. “Yes Alpha,” one of the guards answered while he carried Serena from my arms. As I stood up, that sweet scent of Jasmine graced my senses. My wolf leaped excitedly within me as I turned to the crowd behind me. And there she was, so innocently beautiful that I could barely concentrate on any other thing. I loved the way her high waist trouser accentuated her curves so perfectly, I imagined having my arms curled around them and the more that thought lingered, the more I lost control over my thought process. On impulse, I weavded towards her while the crowd parted, giving their greetings. “Hey.” I flashed a tiny smile, my height easily towering over hers. “Are you okay?” Her voice hinted with so much worry, referring to the claw marks I had sustained across my chest from taming Serena. “It’s just a bruise, it will heal up in no time,” I responded and in that moment, the bruise slowly closed up. “See?” She heaved a sigh of relief. “Is someone worried about me?” I teased and she rolled her eyes while Sarah chuckled. “So, you like the view so far?” I asked while I crossed my hand behind my back. “Sarah was just about to take me to the lakeside.” “The view there is quite wonderful indeed. Let me take you there.” I offered my right palm. She hesitated for a while before intertwining her left with mine. I gulped down my saliva trying to calm the raving sparks in me. “You two have fun!” Sarah chirped. “Oh they look so good together!” I heard some of the members around say. “I wish the Alpha was mine!” some ladies squealed and I almost chuckled. “Is it necessary to hold hands?” she said, still feigning her smile. “Aren’t you the same lady that was worried about me a few moments ago?” I responded in the same manner. “All eyes were on us, I had to play the loving mate.” “So you don’t care if I was hurt or not.” “I don’t.” I glanced at her. “Look into my eyes and tell me you don’t care.” Our gazes met and I got lost in the enchantment of her gray eyes. “I don’t care, Logan.” I smirked. “If only your lie was as flawless as your beauty.” “If you think your sweet words are going to make my head spin, you’ve got the wrong girl.” “I don’t need any effort to make the girls trip but you, it’s different.” “So you’re openly admitting to your mate that you’re a serial playboy,” she beamed a cocky smile. “Is someone jealous?” My right eyebrow arched quizzically. “Jealous?” she scoffed. “I only became your Luna because of our deal. I don’t care what you do with your women.” “What if I want you to care?” She stared at me, confused. “What if I really want you as my Luna and not because of a deal?” Her lips twitched, her heartbeat started rising and our pace slowed as neither of us refused to waiver from each other’s gaze. “I told you, Love is not an option I want to consider.” “Amy—“ “I am not the right Luna for you, Logan,” she intoned with a heavy dose of worry hinting. “Yet the moon goddess chose you for me.” “I can’t...“ She looked around before facing me again. “I can’t transform into a wolf.” “What?” I froze in my steps while she pulled her hand away from mine. “That’s right, Logan. I don’t know how to transform into my wolf. Just imagine the kind of shame that will cost you when your pack members and other packs at large hear the news that the Alpha King’s Luna can’t transform.” My teeth gritted, trying so hard not to show my dissatisfaction. Not only was she terribly weak, she couldn’t even do the basic thing a werewolf could do. Was this how much the moon goddess loved me? “Why didn’t you tell me all this while?” “I— I don’t know.” I looked around for a while unsure how to react. My reputation was greatly at stake just because I was mated to her. If not for my curse, I would have rejected her on sight. “Logan—“ “We should continue,” I quoted icily and the rest of our walk to the lake was a silent one. From the unevenness of her breaths I could tell she was restless but I was too angry to even consider comforting anyone. “You probably hate me now,” she said as we got to the lakeside. “Why should I?” I mumbled whilst staring upfront with my hands crossed behind my back. “I can’t do the basic thing a werewolf should do. You’re probably the strongest werewolf alive yet you were mated to the weakest of the weakest—“ “I have a curse, Amy.” It took all I had to force those words out. “What?” she gasped. “Ten years ago I was cursed with the inability to transform. It also stopped my aging. And the only cure is winning the heart of my true mate. For years I’ve been searching and then I found you.” Her lips parted but she couldn’t find the right words to say. “How did you—“ I glanced at the gentle water. “It doesn’t matter how I got it.” “There you go with your mysteries.” She shook her head. “I don’t trust you Logan. I barely believe most of your words.” “I haven’t done anything to harm you,” I frowned. “But you’ve certainly planted seeds of questions in me. Questions that I need answers to.” “Questions like what?” “Who is that lady in the painting? Why was her dress in your wardrobe? Why is everybody hiding her identity from me? And the latest one is how you got your curse?” “They’re irrelevant.” “No they’re not! I need to know you, Logan. I’m your mate and not some kind of stranger.” “These matters are none of your concern.” “I’m your cure!” she blurted and my chest heaved up. “I’m that important in your life. So if you want this mate thingy to work between us, you have to let me trust you.” I glared. “I am your cure just like you are. You need me, so you better stop bothering yourself with questions that have no business with you.” Her eyes twitched in fear. “My promise still stands and the first step is dealing with your transformation problem. Come with me,” I ordered while I walked away. “Where are we going?” “To the training den. I can’t have my Luna disgracing me.”
