Chapter 24
I wasn't sure where to go after meeting with Zoe. Andrew was back at the villa, so I didn't want to return.
I lost track of time and was not aware of how long I spent letting the sea breeze blow over me on Gibter Island, a serene spot situated in the middle of the lake. By the time I came to my senses, it was already nearing dusk.
The lakeside breeze jostled my hair as the waves repeatedly crashed against the shore. Many couples were holding hands, laughing, and playing by the beach. I once thought that Valerie and I would be this happy.
I gazed on as the last sliver of sunlight faded. It resembled the life I was struggling with, yet unable to give up on.
I pinned my hope of survival on Zoe. I didn't know if I would make it in the end, but there was one thing I had to do as soon as possible.
I dialed the long-forgotten contact in my phone.
"Mr. Lindberg, it's Jeffrey," I said as soon as the call connected.
